Posted over 2 years ago Hello all, I was hoping that someone here could provide some assistance. I am in the process of writing a proposal for a K9 unit for my agency. However, I am a fish out of water as far as writing a proposal. Can someone provide me with a template? All assistance would be a big help. Thanks and stay safe. |

| Posted over 2 years ago Depending on the type of dog you are wanting ie, single purpose drug, dual purpose or just a patrol dog, focus on how the dog will benefit the department. Have you had to request K9 services from other agencies. Do you have a budget proposal. How are you going to get the dog, how is the dog going to be paid for. Whose going to train it. What are you plans for certification and inservice training. Obtain policies/general orders from departments with established K9 Units so you'll have an idea of how to propose the management of a canine. Detail how you are going to provide equipment, vet care, transportation etc. Contact USPCA and NAPWDA and search their forums for setting up a canine Unit. USPCA has some good information on what is needed. Dogs can be a viable asset, but it has to be done correctly or it becomes a thorn in managements side. Do your homework.
