Posted 6 months ago Hi Ed, I am so glad you started this forum. I really want to become a TSA Canine Handler (currently a TSO) and have been searching for information. Could you tell me what classes or other education that would help to give me a 'leg up' when these positions become available? (no current positions open to see what might be required/desireable) Thank you so much!

Posted 6 months ago Ed, What breed of dog does TSA use and are they trained on food-reward or play-reward ?? I am currently an ATF Special Agent/Certified Explosives Specialist, does the job require any previous explosives-related experience or is it helpful ?? Thanks in advance

Posted 9 days ago What exactly is TSA looking for when they review applications for a Canine Handler? I've applied for many positions and get turned down with no explanation. I've read over the job posting, and as far as I can tell, I meet the requirements. Can you tell me exactly what they're looking for so I can try to add that to my resume and experience and make myself a better candidate? I know I'd be a great TSA Canine Handler, but I don't know how to get TSA to understand that.

Posted 8 days ago Same with me animal_lover89. I have applied to probably a dozen handler jobs nation wide over the last 2 years and no progress with my application. I even paid someone who specializes in government resumes to look over mine and help me fill out the application. Still nothing. Needless to say I have switched my focus. Going to get my Masters ... Best of luck to you!

Posted 8 days ago I've been applying for all kinds of jobs. Nothing. I got one interview out of about 1000 applications and only a handful of emails telling me I didn't qualify for a job. Even less bothered to explain why I didn't qualify. I too am shifting my focus, but I still keep trying for canine handler positions just in case.
