| Posted over 2 years ago R.I.P. Major Winters. Your story and the portrayal of it in the series brought about a deeper appreciation of the sacrifice that was made by your generation during WWII. It also had the additional effect of creating a better sense of appreciation of Veterans of all wars by the younger generations. Godspeed, sir. | Posted over 2 years ago Like Joshua Chamberlain, Dick Winters was a magnificent example of what Stephen Ambrose called the "Citizen Soldier"...the non-professional who rose from obscurity to lead men in times of deadly peril. My favorite line from Band of Brothers...when leading his men into Bastogne and a retreating infantry officer tells him they have been cut off and are now encircled...."We're Airborne; we're supposed to be surrounded."

| Posted over 2 years ago And how loyal his friends were to his dying day - says so much about the man. He wanted his privacy until the very end . I'm so grateful he shared his story and so much of himself with all of us. Telling that story for those that can't or won't. What a truly remarkable and amazing man that I had the pleasure to live near and to meet. I will never forget you. Rest in Peace Sir.
