Just an fyi, folks. It's been a while since I've mentioned this. I think it bears a repeat.

A couple of years ago I suggested that the longer people gained 'tenure' on the site, there may be expectations of special treatment, leniency on provocative/suggestive posts and/or leveraged favors.

Reminder: Please do not attempt to manipulate familiarity with me or anyone on the Moderator Team to sway direction with an issue you or someone else may be having on the site. I have no problem sidelining any member, ... temporarily or permanently. And I back the Moderator Team in the actions they may take.

Reflection: I know that whole thing above sounds kinda tough. It does not reflect self indulgence. I do not revel in people being suspended or sanctioned (with the exception of trolls and similar ilk). So, it has nothing to do with me. This site is great because you make it great. And I try to keep 'site health' in mind while 'on duty'.

But be aware: Thousands upon thousands of people quietly watch and read through the site. They look at our forums, our Op/Ed sections, the news articles, .... the whole gamut. You have to know that what you say is viewed by many.

I always figured just the opposite was in effect, the longer your tenure (in terms of posts, not in terms of time, as i have run across 2 or 3 people who average less than one post/yr but have been here 3+ yrs.), that if you have more tenure here you are watched more closely.  I sometimes go out on 'thin ice' but i do it with malice of forethought, as I figure I'm as likely to fall through as anyone else.  As I see it, with tenure comes more opportunites to either rub another member the wrong way or to be rubbed the wrong way by another, and the potential for an inappropriate response.  It's easy not to violate the TOU's if you never post.  If PL is anything like officer.com the number of lookie lous non-members here is anywhere from 3 to 10 times the number of members at any given time, that is why there are things I would never post in the non-restricted forums, but will still post in a restricted forum, and some things are "posted" only by PM.
