I'll be there - was just thinking about it this morning actually - and this year the vigil is before Police week so keep it in mind when planning.

I saw that, it's always on the 13th of May, so this year it will be two days before police week starts.  Thanks for the heads up.

Unfortunately, I'm not able to attend this year  But I'd love to go next year.

My son's 8th grade class trip is in DC this spring, I volunteered to chaperone. It will keep me from going to Police Week, but since all the chaperones are LEOs, we are plotting to do our own trip to the memorial and bring the kids along.

There's a group of us that meet up in DC every year...we're from Illinois, Indiana, Virginia, California, Arkansas, Toronto, Colorado, Maryland, England, Ireland and Australia.  I probably left some out, but you get the idea.  Some will be in town for the Law Ride, some for the Candlelight, and some for the Capital lawn.  We're always looking to meet up with new friends, so let me know!

PM me as it gets closer and I should know who will be coming.  Most of us stay at the same hotel every year, but it looks like we're splitting locations this time.  Do you know what dates you'll be there?

I will be going. We have two families that we will be helping if their loved one is approved for the wall. Also Suzie Sawyer the Executive Director and founder of C.O.P.S. will be retiring after 27 yrs. They are having a retirement party in DC for her during Police Week. I am planning on attending that. She is a great role model for me during the time I am President of our C.O.P.S. Chapter. If I can do even one quarter the good work she has done, then I will know that I am doing a good job as President.

I will probably fly in on the 12th.  My wife and I have not made any hotel arrangements yet, but I hear the hotels fill quickly.

Are you driving, flying, or riding?  I ask because there's a group getting together from your state that are riding, and I've asked the guy organizing it if I can pass on his info to you.

As for the hotel, it depends on what your budget is...the further out you go, the cheaper it is.

my experience while visiting dc is stay across the river in virginia, nice hotels at better rates and get a metro pass for the subway and that is the only way to go unless ya can afford it..

I just got a three room guesthouse, Bed and Breakfast, with kitchen and laundry,  5 blocks from the White House for 129.00 a night. Lucked out on that one.  It's two blocks from the metro and bus service.

Sounds good!  I don't know if you got the email I forwarded, but...we're right on Capital Hill, walking distance to just about everything--the Memorial, Metro, White House, etc., even walked to Arlington two years ago.  Keep in touch with Adrian, he's an old pro at this now!  lol

I checked out several places in that area, but they were either too much money or already booked.  That's whereI stayed last time I was in DC.

I really want to go this year, have wanted to go past few years but could not pull it together.  This year I would really like to go but was hoping I could get some advice on the best way to arrang it?  Is anyone from NH heading out htat way?  Trying to see if I can pull a few guys from here to go but its hard with families and time off.

I will finally be going this year, but only for a couple days. The other officer I'm going with and I are leaving saturday the 14th around noon, should be in by 7 or so; leaving DC on the 16th or so. Keep me in mind if anyone wants to meet up there.

What's a good date to all meet up for a beer.  We could meet at that microbrew at Union Station.  Don't know the name of it, but Union Station is easy to find.  Just need a date and time.

Capitol City Brewing Company?  That's the only one I can think of, it's outside of Union Station  http://www.capcitybrew.com/capitolhill.php   I've never been there, but some of the group has.  We usually hit The Dubliner at least twice (great food), and meet up every night at Harry's (11th & E Streets NW).  One of our Brits stayed in a condo with his wife last year, it was very nice, since alot of the guys double and triple up, it wouldn't work for us.  It sounds like you got a great deal, Jimroc!  BTW, we're probably available almost any evening/night, so we can work all that out later.

Jim, depending on what my partner has planned that I'm traveling with, I'd be game for meeting up wherever; he knows where most of the places are down there being he goes every year, as I will start planning on doing.

This will be my first year.  I am going with the president of Ohio C.O.P.S. and assisting with their events.  It's going to be such an honor to be a participant this year!  We also have a fly along planned with the PGPD Air Support officers.  REALLY looking forward to that!

BUT... while she is busy doing her "presidential" duties, I will be left to fend for myself!  If anyone wants a tag-along for a few drinks and some good company, PM me!  I won't know too many people there.  The more "family" I get to know, the better!

BlondeCop.....get with me or IamQnMutha and we can get together.  As she said we have a large group that keeps growing.  I met them all a few years back and they are wonderful people from all over.  Everyone is always welcome.  I haven't been in a couple years but will be back this year!!

@cops1521  Our president (Lisa Kaffenberger) has a table reserved for us at Suzie's retirement roast too.  Would love if you stopped by our table!  I'm sure you and her have a lot in common.

Blondecop77, I definitely will stop by and say hi. I have to talk with Lisa beforehand your Chapter and My Chapter has a fallen LEO in common. Just waiting to have him approved for the Wall. His sister and her husband and son live in our area. Lisa and I have talked a couple of times when he first died.
