How do you feel about the expandable baton? What are your preferences in length? How does this compare to the other less than lethal weapons available to officers?

I find mine very useful. as with size it depends on the officer.

Since the OP was banned but is probaly still reading these, I will say i used a 21"  expandable monodock, because that is what I was issued, easy decision.

I loved the PR-24.................but my Department went to the expandable - soooooooooooo I had no choice but to train with it and carry.  I'll keep my opinion to myself on this one - in case big brother is watching.

It is what it is.............and.........these things too shall pass.

Expandables are useful in some ways, like poking at nasty stuff and breaking things, but with the addition of the tazer, they just are not utilized anywhere as much as they used to be. Good attention getters though....

I am on the fence about E batons.  I have carried one know for 4 years.  The only uses I have found for it is breaking bongs, and poking gross stuff.

Poking gross stuff, that seems to be the major use of a baton, it saves you having to put your tongue on it.  Batons are aslo great for tapping on  things (doors, car windows, dumpsters - in case a racoon bolts out, etc).

removing snakes from buildings, herding animals that get loose, touching things I don't want to touch, and breaking stuff.  I carry my 21" ASP in a swivelling ASP holder on my weak side.  It gets caught in my seatbelt more often than I use it.

I'm about to pull the trigger and buy a Monadnock 2015 NPNYPD26 poly straight baton, or a cheap Casco wood stick.  Schwing!!!

I have used mine quite a bit, but not for what its made for. I used it most recently to pry a suspect into the car. He didn't wanna stay so I put the tip in the cage, and the shaft across his ear, and put my 200 lb Rear End weight into it, and he became real docile, real quick. It's also good for, as other said, poking the occasional homeless guy to make sure he's still alive.
