Hello,

I start the academy in October and I am buying the necessities right now. I need help with choosing a flashlight, there are so many makes and models! I want something light weight and with a lot of lumens. Can anyone suggest a great flashlight? I plan on buying one in two weeks. I know an officer right now who is helping me find a great flashlight, he is asking an officer who researches new flashlights. I would appreciate it if anyone could highly recommend a brand or even make. I have come across some 5.11 flashlights that seem great, but do not know many officers who carry 5.11 lights. Thank you for your time!

I use a SureFire G3.  Great little light, but it tends to eat batteries, and they ain't cheap.  Also, I learned the hard way that it doesn't take non-Surefire brand batteries.

Thank you, I was told by a fellow officer that the SureFire x300 is great for your weapon light. I will definitely look into this brand. I was alo told that the Streamlight Strion is a great flashlight and seems to be popular around our agency here. I will look into both brands, does the SureFire use lithium batteries? Thank you for your recommendation.

We recently equipped all our patrol vehicles with the 511 flashlight.  It goes from dead to full charge in 90 seconds.  It is reasonbly bright and lightweight.

Streamlight Scorpion...bright as hell but as always it likes expensive batteries. Don't forget your back up light because when it comes to flashlights if you got 2 you got 1 and if you got 1 you got none.

I carry the Streamlight Polystinger DS. Very durable, and holds a charge for quite some time

I have this flashlight also.  Absolutely the best flashlight I've used so far!  It also has a strobe mode I assume its for directing traffic or just pl ain being annoying hah.  Push and hold the button its brighter than just turning it on.  You can't beat the 90 second charge.  Seems like a good makeup of material, very lightweight.

GALLS had a special the A/C adapter came free with the unit.

Always have had a strong liking for Streamlight products. Find what is most effective and useful to yourself. Consider where you are going to have it stowed, how long you need it charged, and durability.

Damn... I guess I'm the only old fogy that still carries a 3 cell mag light. I don't care about lightweight... it's an extra night stick if need be, and they have always been bright enough to see at great distances. (DONT U TALK BOUT MY MAG LIGHT.... AHH!... DONT U SAY IT!!.... SHUT UP!!...)
