Posted almost 3 years ago I'm not a cop but if I was one working nights, I'd be drinking Deton 8. I call it my happy juice LOL I don't consume it all the time but it does give me tons of energy. I"m not a coffee drinker but I do love tea.

Posted almost 3 years ago You just gear your life to be awake at that time. I don't do anything other than sleep during the day so I am up at night. The caffeine and energy drink method will leave you more tired when it wears off. It is better to get plenty of sleep and eat a balanced diet. That way you will be awake and yet healthy late at night. Officers tend to gain a lot of weight on late night shifts because they eat bad food.

Posted almost 3 years ago Caffeine will work for a little bit, but if you are going to be on nights for a while, it is better to start a normal routine. I used to drink a liter of Dr. Pepper per night. When I was off nights, I stopped, and I would get the worst withdrawl headaches. Definitely not good for the body.

Posted almost 3 years ago If this is your first ride along you'll probably be too excited to think about sleep. And hope for a somewhat busy night. Talking helps too You could try for a nap in the evening too. When I was in the auxiliary I only remember one nite when there was nothing going on that I got sleepy. YaYa Sister

Posted almost 3 years ago I've never suffered to much from the "caffeine crash" It would be helpful to take a nap before the watch starts tonight! PL Mentoring Team Member My day begins when yours ends.

Posted almost 3 years ago Also, it's been my experience that ride alongs don't last an entire shift. I don't know about this particular situation, being that the officer is your father, but if it's going By the book, it'll probably only go for 4 - 6 hours.

8 hours? Wow. We do 12's where I'm from. |

Actually the aroma I absolutely love and that would keep me awake. I just can't get used to the taste.
