Hi there! I was wondering if you guys could give me your professional opinion on an issue. How do you guys feel and respond when people call you back (not so much 911 emergency, rather non emergency) to see, why an officer has not come to check on a situation, or a follow up call to let them know the situation has changed? I mean do you guys appreciate this or is that inappropriate/offensive?  Thanks so much for your time...I hope this is not a stupid question.

My department has a Policy of answering every call, no matter how minor. Sometimes it may be just calling the complainant to let them know that you got the call, and will notify the proper persons in the morning (i.e. Call public works to remove a dead animal from the road), but we never leave a call unanswered.

If the dept. is very busy and your call falls into the 'low priority' catagory, officers will not respond until all the high priority calls have been taken care of, and often high priority calls are time consuming.  I have seen it take several hours on an extremely busy night to respond to a low priority call.  Low priority calls are normally responded to in the order they are recieved, and ther might be 8 or 10 already in the queue when you call goes into the queue.

Thank you guys so much for your replies. I have only called the police a couple times in my life, so I was not real sure how to follow through with a call I had made. I had an idea it worked that way (on a priority level), totally makes sense. Thank you. :o)

They actually replied very quickly (within 10min), but they went to the wrong address. They called me back to double check the address and see if the situation was the same, since they were unable to find any issue at the house they went to. I confirmed that I gave them the correct address and the situation was the same,(I saw them leaving the wrong house, when I went outside to make sure I did not get the address wrong while on the phone). But, they never came back (and the situation had not changed), I was just not sure if I should try again, I was worried.  They were very nice, hopefully they came and the situation will not be the same tomorrow.

If you saw them, why didn't you flag them down or walk up to them.  Also you say "You weren't sure of the address", did you get the street correct?

They are my neighbors so I was sure I had the right address.lol  I just double checked thinking, "oh crud, what if I did have it wrong", even though she repeated the correct address back to me. I would have felt so bad sending them to the wrong place.  But I had given her the correct address.

Oh gosh, I wish I could have flagged them down. I was walking outside as they were leaving the house down the street, so I could not run after them or flag them down, they were not facing me or close enough to me. I did tell the dispatcher on the phone though that I saw them leaving at the same moment I was talking to her. I waited outside to see if they would come back around, but they didn't. That is kinda why I was thinking of calling them back, it was important but not a 911 emergency.

Often times ( and i don't know how it works where your are) when an  person calls with a complaint about a neighbor,  they will only go to that reasidence unless you  (as the complainant) request contact and give your address.  This would be dispatched something like this:  Check on a situation at 1114 maple, complainant at 1110 Maple wished to be contacted.

Many calls example - noise complaints, the complainant does not wish to be contacted so the noisy neighbors don't know who called on them.

At a previous agency, I went on several noise complaints where the dispatcher said "Complainant does not wish contact" and a few where complainant wanted to be contacted, i went with how I was dispatched.

Ditto w/ my dept.

What did you call the police for or did I miss it?

I think here, they will come out either way. She asked me if I wanted to leave my name and I chose not to, simply because I do not want my neighbor to know I called. But it was rather pointless for me to worry about, because she had my address as soon as I called. It was kinda funny, but I am assuming a type of phone number info thing? They had my phone number and address, just not my name (well they could of).

I am hesitant to put why I called since this is an open forum and it is a small world.lol

Oh and I do not want you guys to think I am dogging the dispatcher or officer; not at all, their response time was great, she was very nice and I am assuming something more important came up.

Same for my department. It depends on if the complainant wants to be contacted

Hi,

I agreed. Most of the times I found them on the place and as you have said they are there after your complaint.
