For those of you that have HBO, DO NOT MISS THIS OPPORTUNITY!! On Sunday, May 30th, 2010 at 9:00 pm EST(, HBO will be re-broadcasting an HBO Original Movie: “Taking Chance”. Kevin Bacon has the lead role of Lt Col Michael Strobl, an Officer in the USMC. Lt Col Strobl volunteers for the assignment of escorting home the remains of 19 year old Lance Corporal Chance Phelps, who had been killed in action in Iraq. This movie is based on actual events! http://www.hbo.com/movies/taking-chance/index.html I saw this movie when it came out about a year ago!! I highly recommend this movie (and have your tissues handy!!) |

| Posted almost 3 years ago Be prepared to cry when you watch this one, it is a very emotionally charged and powerful film. Kevin Bacon does an awesome job here. "Be a yardstick of quality. Some people aren't used to an environment where excellence is expected."

| Posted almost 3 years ago Ooh-rah!! This movie is out on DVD. It was premiered at the USMC Base at Quanitco. My son has done this Honor twice now at a very young age and after watching this movie (lots of tissues needed) - I am even more proud of him than before (didn't think that was possible) when I saw what he was able to handle with such strength and dignity!! For all the escorts who bring our babies home, there are no words to express how much it means!! Do not miss this movie!!! |

| Posted almost 3 years ago Kevin Bacon does a fine, underplayed performance. I think this is one of his best roles. |

| Posted almost 3 years ago On the calendar. Looking forward to it. A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort. You can buy it from Amazon for about 15 bucks - so worth it. I love this movie - bawl everytime I watch it. But it's one of those movies that sticks with you and you'll find yourself telling people about it long after you've seen it. | Posted almost 3 years ago OK. So for those of you that have not yet seen this movie, and will either be watching it Sunday or renting it, you'll have to come back to this thread and let all of us know what you thought of it!!! I'll be the first to admit: 20 years in the US Army (and saw some sights that would curl your toes), 17 years in Law Enforcement (same thing with the sights), have watched first hand a number of people pass away (to include my first wife); I think I have a heart of stone! But I cried like a baby during this movie!!!! The real Lance Corporal Chance Phelps:

Few things, and I do mean few things, in life get me emotional to the point where I can tear up........but as both a Soldier and a Police Officer, tales of heroism in combat, brothers going down in the field, men standing up for what they believe in and giving their all for their brothers...that makes me emotional. The guys we didnt bring back from my time in Iraq, Ill never forget them and I am glad a network decided to tell this troopers tale. Hopefully more stories will be told about Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, Airmen, and Coasties about the MASSIVE sacrifices they are making "over there." |

| Posted almost 3 years ago I was just talking to a friend about this movie today....I think I had a 20 second window of not crying,I cried from start to finish (literally) but man, this movie is awesome!!! ..I'm not a big fan of Kevin Bacon's, but he was very realistic in this movie...If you haven't seen this movie yet, I truly do recommend watching it.... | Posted almost 3 years ago I did watch this movie as well and at the time my son was a Marine. Now he is a deputy sheriff and a former Marine. I have to agree with the statement, have your tissues close to hand. I actually purchased a copy this movie for my library. It is an outstanding movie and an outstanding performance by Kevin Bacon. |
