Hello everybody, I was speaking with my Training Sgt. today and he gave me the House Bill exempting Tx LEO' s from Tuition and Lab fees at state funded colleges. Anyone know if that is in effect?

I haven't heard or seen anything like that.  I would be interested though, hit me up when you find something out.

If that is true, it sounds like a winner! Do post an update once you have one!

H.B. # 2347 relates to tuition and laboratory fee exemptions at public institution of higher education for certain peace officers enrolled in criminal justice or law enforcement management-related course work.

This bill has not passed yet.

It is my understanding that this has passed, but will not go into effect until January 2011. Only thing I am uncertain of is if this bill will only cover strictly LE and Fire classes or if it will cover any class needed for an LE or Fire Science Degree? Eg...  English, History or Kinesiology classes...

I talked to a Prof at UNT and UTA last night, and they said it covers any coursework for LEO's in the their fields to include Core Courses. They also informed me it will be in effect Jan 2011. However I heard of some schools that are honoring it now. Im waiting for my Training Sgt. to get me the list. Thanks for y'alls input............

Had an update course today for laws and amendments from the most recent congress and this was covered. Like the above poster said, its official jan 2011 and covers Criminal Justice and other major course studies courses akin to criminal justice

My understanding is that it does not take effect until 2011 or 2012.  I would have to double check.
