Ok, how about a legitimate question. . . .since you brought "Frank" in on this. . . .was the movie a "fairly accurate" portrayal of the life and times of the NYPD during his time on the department? I know there are certain "dramatic licenses" taken when telling a story but was just curious if it was that bad. . .did he bring some of it on himself. . . .little of both. . . .none of the above? |

I can tell you he got on the job in 1959 so his early scenes were a bit far since the r.m.p.´s were model mid 60 fury's can´t say on most of his story only that I personally knew guys who worked with him in the same 7th. division I also worked out of, they told me Frank was a bit full of him self they commented that the job wasn´t a third as corrupted as the movie played out too be, as for as me I never seen anything in my 13 years of service! | Posted almost 3 years ago met al pacino during filming at the old 80 pct.had coffee with him standing outside a bodega on washington ave and grand aves. guarded frank serpico when he was transfered to bklyn jewish hospital in the 80. chief sidney cooper(ole baldy) wanted only new guys on the job assigned to guard him when he got shot, franks parents owned a sort of bodega on franklin ave for a while, he was ahead of his time, his dress, mannerisms, (REMEMBER IN THE MOVIE SERPICO, HE ENDS UP IN BROOKLYN STANDING OUTSIDE OF NATHANS ON CONEY IS AVE AND STILLWELL, when this unmarked plainclothes officer pulls up and flashes his tin at serpico?? that was the unofficial plainclothes uniform, of the nypd of days of old. black shoes white socks were permitted, shirt outside of pants to hide regulation 39 smub nose and cuffs??you were a walking adv ertisement, then guys like frank started to look the part and the old world establishment wanted nothing to do with him or it!) wow, i havent said that much in a while, FRANK DID WHAT HE WAS SUPPOSED TO DO, DID HIGH CRIME, WORKED IN BCI READIN PRINTS AS A PART OF CAREER PATH, WORKED PLAINCLOTHES AND HE GOT NO GOLD SHIELD, Had they given hin the gold shield he deserved, at the time, alot of nonsense would not have happened, AND ALSO, CORRUPTION WOULD HAVE BEEN RAMPANT IN THE NYPD FOR A FEW MORE YEARS! |
