Posted about 3 years ago I Start the academy tomorrow. I have to admit, I'm a tiny bit anxious. Wish me luck! And if anyone wants to fill me in on what sort of things to expect.... anything at all please, feel free |

| Posted about 3 years ago Pay attention, take copious notes, then review then nightly, and remember it is a full time job with OT going to the academy. Don't get to partying with your classmates at opposed to studying after class. |

I'll have to agree with Casscocop's response if you wish to be academically successful in the academy. You will receive tons of information within a short time period, so attending everyday will be crucial. Missing one day will throw you off for a bit, so only miss if you really, really, really have to! Be sure to share your tasing and pepper spray training experiences! | Posted about 3 years ago The best advice was given by Casscocop. I would like to add this however. You are not a cop you are a student. Keep your ego in check. I have seen many in the academy pass themselves off as officers and dig a very deep hole that they cannot climb out of and end up in the unemployment line. Use your noodle and keep your mind and ears open and mouth shut. |

Laff. ----- I am hoping to get hired on with a city police force in my state in a few months and then I will be going to the academy. Good to keep all of this in mind for my reserve training now and (hopefully) for then. I got O.C.'d a week ago. Good grief that was tough. Still, I am glad to have done it. I just hope I don't have to do it again. |

| Posted about 3 years ago much appreciation for all of the good advise. Thanks a bunch to those who responded. 3 days of academy are now behind me and I am enjoying it a great deal. I believe that I ended up in the right place. the academy I am attending has instructors I'm almost compelled to applaud when their finished with instruction. Just a ton if information true, it's all thrown at you at a fairly quick pace but these guys are delivering the information in such a concise and to the point manner that I don't have much problem retaining it. I couldn't be happier to have made the decision to attend. good advice Chiefdennis, and yes, I am certainly making it a point to keep a conservitive tounge in my mouth. I only speak when I'm asked basically I'm too busy listening and taking copious amounts of notes like you've mentioned casscop. I'm signed for taser training which I'll recieve in two weeks. So yeah, I'll be sure and share once I've had the pleasure of voltage. Should I wear a diaper for that? I'll have to re-check the schedule to see when I get the O.C. in the face... I'm a sick man cause I do strangely look forward to it. So yeah, only three days so far, just hoping I stay as happy with it as I am currently. It's still too early to tell of course, but I believe I'll be attending the graduation at the end of summer. I intend to achieve the perfect attendance award... |

Even though keeping your moth shut in general is a good idea, do not hesitate to ask questions if you don't understand a topic, chances if you don't understand it others don't either. No, you don't need a diaper for taser training, just need to relax, it's as easy as falling off a log (or falling on the floor). |

Relax before because when those prongs hit you, they will probably take all the relax right out of you. |

| Posted about 3 years ago Remember "What Happens at the Academy, DOES NOT Stay at the Academy!" Your "Off Hours" activities (Indiana L.E.A. is a "stay the night" academy). will follow you throughout your career. Don't go out for a drink (it turns into 6 drinks) and don't hook up at the academy, it ALWAYS ends badly. And it will ALWAYS be funny to everybody else .... I still laugh. |

| Posted 5 months ago So... How was the rest of your training? I go in a little over a week and am trying to find a couple success stories to calm my nerves. "And maybe just remind the few, if ill of us they speak, that we are all that stands between the monsters and the weak." Michael Marks |
