Posted about 3 years ago I was wondering if anyone had any information on designing a police budget. My criminal justice teacher is having the class design a budget for a new created police department with1 chief, 1 sergeant, 1 detective and 7 officers. If anyone would be able to help i would greatly apperciate it thank you, tylor |

| Posted about 3 years ago You may want to throw in a few parameters like population, square milage, demographics, etc. Without those factors it is hard to think where resources would be needed. On a fictitious level with none of those concerns be sure to pay and equip your people well otherwise they may use your department as a training ground before moving on to bigger and better things. Interesting post though. You may want t contact ChiefDennis on this 1. You can't cure stupid. |

Make sure the budget is high enough so that you don't have to lay off any officers. |

| Posted about 3 years ago I will agree that getting a hold of ChiefDennis is the person to ask. If I could add a few things like make sure you have funding for equipment, ongoing training, vehicles (gas, maintenance), funding to hire police officers, funds for overtime, healthcare funds, funds for non uniform or non commissioned staff. Man, hopefully that's not too much. Patience is a virtue

| Posted about 3 years ago mystikdragon7 is on the right path. There is more data required. I did start an agency from scratch in 1997. I would have the same questions regarding tax base. Permanet residents. equipment. False arrest insurance ect. Many more questions would need to be asked. |

| Posted about 3 years ago One positve things I found when I was hired as chief to start an agency is the fact I dealt with the government at the federal and state level. I was able to teach myself how to write grants. It is not rocket science however, there is a certain format and the wording is very important. Lots of hoops to jump thru. At the time we received a truck and portable radios at the state level. The cops grant was when President Clinton was in office and they picked up the tab on officers with the agreement after 3 years it was on the city. The Village People added a second police officer to their group.LOL |

| Posted about 3 years ago Yeah, and don't forget to set aside money for when the ACLU/Jesse Jackson/Al Sharpton wants to sue your department...
