Posted about 3 years ago I've never been a God Mother before... My Godson just turned 4 months and 7 days today! i'm not counting of course : ) But is there anything that I am suppose to do? I took him to his first baseball game, going to take him to his first football game... I'm going to try to be there as much as possible. I never thought I could love anyone more then I love my dog ( and I'm being serious- ask my momma me and my dog are team awesome) Anyways I just wondering if any of you have some suggestions or know what a Godmother is suppose to do... ( and if you suggest find a Godfather I will send a Zombie after you ) xoxo Redlight

| Posted about 3 years ago Well, I was gonna suggest that you find a Godfather, but since you're obviously expressing a negative attitude about it, I won't suggest it. The integrity of your word is its greatest respect! - "Talon" |

| Posted about 3 years ago You know a Godfather doesn't have to be someone you're dating/married to. It can be a friend of the father. |

| Posted about 3 years ago you can be a single Godmother Above all, we must realize that no arsenal, or no weapon in the arsenals of the world, is so formidable as the will and moral courage of free men and women. It is a weapon our adversaries in today’s world do not have. Ronald Reagan |

I agree with this part completely. . . .however, a Godparent can also be the person that picks up the slack if the parents fall short of their responsibilities. With some families, if the parents are injured (or worse) to the point of being unable to care for their children, the Godparents are the ones (agreed to beforehand with the parents) that take over the parenting. Other things that can be injected into the relationship are the things that the parents are unable (or unwilling) to do with their children. Example: Parents can't (or don't) hunt, but want the child to have that experience (at an appropriate time) so they ask the Godparent to take the child hunting (assuming the Godparent hunts). Godparenting can be what you (and the parents) want it to be. Make it your own and have fun injecting some of your values (preferably the positive ones) into the relationship with the child. |

Just made it up haha, it's what I'm here for |
I will tell you this ... when my first son was born, I was concerned about having the ability to be a good father to him. Not ever meeting my father, I had nothing to compare my lessons and experience to as to "how" a father was supposed to be. I worried that I wouldn't be a father the way a father should be ... but, a year after he was born, I realized that the best way for me to be a good father was just simply not to try to be one to begin with. Don't seek expectations as to how to be a good "parent" or "God parent" ... just "be" a God parent without trying to be one. You'll be amazed as how natural your experience will be as time goes on. And from what I read from your post, it appears as if you're already on the right track with answering your own question ... love is one of the best guides for you!
But typically the term Godparent was a term used in Christian religions to help school the child about Christian beliefs and ensure they have a good grasp of God and faith in him...
