Posted almost 6 years ago Recently my jurisdiction has seen an increased in fleeing ATV RIders, since legislation has changed and we are able to charge riders who license is revoked, for driving revoked/suspended, officers are more dilligant in apprehending these motorists. However, It is not policy but I will not pursue a fleeing ATV rider due to the increased safety for all parties. |

Posted almost 6 years ago i dont know where you are lawdawg, but we have that problem here in mississippi, go figure. we had a new interstate being built and alot of equipment was being broken in to and stolen. every time we would try to patrol the area the 4 wheelers would take off down the dirt strip.the sheriff recieved enough complaints about it from the contractors and green lighted us dto do whatever it took to catch the bandits..we were able to get our search and rescue to give us their 4 wheelers to do a sting in the area... we started going to the site and waiting on the suspects and were able to catch them using 4 wheelers and horses.most of the 4 wheelers thought they could go where horses could not go , but were proven wrong real quick... happy ending, we seized the atvs and were awarded them in court.. the county had alot of 4 wheelers to patrol the parks and malls during speacial events.BTW, every time im told i can ride my horse on duty i get so happy i pee.

Posted almost 6 years ago Fortunately we don't have that problem up here too often. Everyonce in a while we get them zipping around but "chase" them but we usually use the radio to try and find out where they end up. My wifes family lives in alabama i saw the boys chasing the 4 wheelers down there one night. Odin u familiar with Lucedale?

Posted almost 6 years ago My father in law owns land/house in Lucedale he wants to get rid of. Its in the south east corner of the state by the border of AL. I didn't realize how big mississippi is. We had 2 horses but lost them for budget reasons. I'd love to ride horses but not patrol on them i the city streets. As far as change of scenery, my wife is ready to head back to the south....so maybe I'll learn to ride horses..

Posted almost 6 years ago nothing to ridding horses, i was ridding rank horses when i was 12, the first time i was lnocked out was by a horse, the first broken nose was by a horse. i have patroled by horse only a few times but it was the best time i have had and still was able to make arrest...its the best of both worlds to me..i would like to go to .N.O.P.D, to ride and cop.

Posted almost 6 years ago I'm looking at mobile county right now see what happens. The pay scares me compared to up here in MA, but houses/land are more reasonably priced down there.

Posted almost 6 years ago Hell, last night I had 3 racing style 4 wheelers give me a pretty good run. I lost 'em all as they ran across the river bed. Made for good Video though! I clocked the leader at 81 mph in a POSTED 25 zone at about 2330hrs. I hit the railroad tracks so hard I knocked off my rearview mirror. LOL Bastards!

Posted almost 6 years ago Whats your family think about the move. I got my wife and kids telling me to get my ass in gear and get on a PD/County down there...their all itchin to go. The $ scares me like i said but I've heard conflicting stories about what guys make. A MCS deputy had told me with OT he made about 60K, another guy was telling me around 40K. I don't know how the overtime stuff works at that dept.

Posted almost 6 years ago If you are payroll concerned, stay the hell out of west virginia. Only benefit is property is fairly cheap but taxes are beginning to increase. And, yeah, my 9 year old loves the videos. He was watching this morning. There is too many gas well roads and creeks to cross, dont catch many at all.

Posted almost 6 years ago Don't get me wrong I love the job, the kids gotta eat. We have guys right around 100K but they end up divorced and giving it all away. I work alot of "details" but keep time with the fam to. A typical house up here is 300K to decent 450K and they sit on 10,000 square feet of land. I want some privacy, land and be able to fish and hunt.

Posted almost 6 years ago so hawk, you like to fish more than hunt?..when fishing what do you fish for and when you go hunting what do you hunt?

Posted almost 6 years ago I'd rather hunt. Bought a black lab thinking I could get him trained after this past deer season. Then I went and fu$ked up my back. I'm back to work now. If I have the opportunity to do one or the other I'm in. If the opp comes up for both, I'm going in the woods/field to shoot something.

Posted almost 6 years ago Around here you could pick up nearly 100 acres with a house around $150-$200k. depending on what county or location you are in. But...pay is LOW. As a deputy I started at $8.00 hr. As a chief for a small agency i make more but nowhere what the job deserves. Top pay for our county is around $45k a year.

Posted almost 6 years ago I fish for trout and large mouth bass mostly. When the stripers move up the north east coast I get out there when I can. As for hunting, I live in a city but am fortunate to have a farm in a smaller town thats close. I hunt deer, geese and ducks. As a favor to the land owner we go out and shoot the crows by his crops.

Posted almost 6 years ago You ever been to DC for police week? No hunting there. I think that would be a great idea. I did shoot a boar once with a 308 but we don't have them up here. (Unless you go to a game farm).

Posted almost 6 years ago DC is fun for a day or two if you like to drink. But it gets a little wacky. The LEO memorial is nice to see. We have some of our guys on it. The memorial ceremony is something every LEO should see. I'm with ya on the game farm.

Posted almost 6 years ago i have been to three officer survival schools they show tape of officers being killed in the line of duty over and over again, they also let you hear tape of officers after being shot while undercover, and gasping and crying over the wire while their partner trys to get to him in time... you come out of those classes looking for the toughest mother out there.
