Posted about 3 years ago What age does the police department start working the dogs? How long can the dogs perform the duties they are required to do? Someone told me they retire the dogs at a certain age. Is each city or town different in this aspect? |

| Posted about 3 years ago Usually, the age they begin as working dogs is between 18 months and two years. Depending on the type of dog and the t ype of training the dog must go through. Generally speaking, the service life of a dog is 8 to 10 years. the low range for a patrol, the higher range for a single purpose detector. Usually, the dog is not retired because it's reached some magic number. It is usually retired when it can no longer perform the tasks necessary. Beyond fatigue lies compensatory hypertrophy |
