Recently a West Virginia Trooper took his own life while on duty. My heart and prayers go out to his family. If you go to the link, read the posting from his fellow officers. The administration clearly ignored the warning signs, and refused this officer time off when he requested it for personal reasons.

In a way, I feel suicide can almost be considered line of duty. This is because of the crap LEO's have to see and deal with all the time. In addition, when it is noticed they are often told to "suck it up" and are discouraged from getting help. There are PD's who support seeking help more but there is still resistance from society and even LE administartion AND LEO's. It is important to have help but the help MUST be confidential and not reported back to the administartion. That is the only way LEO's will seek help. Suicide claims almost 2X more than LODD a year. That is a shame and something must be done to stop that just as we work at stopping the LODD. God Bless all you LEO's. Stay safe and know you are not alone.

cops1521, I know what you mean about suicide sometimes being a line of duty death.

I know some will find that offensive, but it must often be the case that the stress of the job is the chief culprit, and too often the job itself ties the hands of a person who would otherwise look for more support and find healing.
