First of all, you will have to reinterpret 'S/O'. In this posting, it does not stand for Sheriff's Office.

It stands for Standing Ovation !!! This is PoliceLink's first S/O Commendation.

From time to time we will be spot-lighting member(s) who do some remarkable and behind the scenes work or other noteworthy activity on the site.  This service for PoliceLink is done for the love of law enforcement, love of PL and deep care and concern for our community.

On behalf of all the PoliceLink Moderators, PL Management, LEO's and supporters, I recognize and thank the Officer Down crew for their exemplary and difficult work.

The Officer Down Group was created many many months ago to memorialize 'in the line of duty law enforcement' deaths for one calendar year. The admin folks of this group work in cooperation with the ODMP ( http://www.odmp.org/ ), a non-profit law enforcement memorial site created and maintained for the last 14 years by our own Senior Editor, Chris Cosgriff.

With each death notification, this team creates a page on our site meeting a predetermined structure that includes the agency, the name, the rank and other germane information about the officer/deputy. They strive for accuracy, which is paramount.

They work tirelessly on this group to maintain decorum, respect and ultimate honor to reflect the highest traditions of law enforcement.

This group has over 3,700 members who are able to view and review our family losses in a timely fashion.

The group can be located here with a click and you are invited to join: policelink.monster.com/groups/1918-officer-down

The team that is in charge of this group is as follows:

Eleni, (Lead Group Administrator),  http://policelink.monster.com/member/Eleni

Poparker4151,  http://policelink.monster.com/member/poparker4151

Servingproud,  http://policelink.monster.com/member/Servingproud

Tonyboyum,  http://policelink.monster.com/member/tonyboyum

Please join me in saluting and thanking Eleni and this team with a PL S/O Commendation !

Your comments are invited.

Thank you, ODG crew! You continually show us one of the best sides of PoliceLink.

Gratefully and respectfully yours,

The Sarge

All of you have been doing a great job. I know it is hard every time you have to post one. If you have accomplished nothing else you woke me up. I hate to say this but for 10 years my vest rode hanging behind me in the car. The second day I was on PL I started wearing my vest and have not missed a day since. In fact I had to purchase another one. Guess I was just lucky before. Thanks and God bless all out there.

Thank you Sarge and those who bestowed this honor upon Officer Down Group.

I had high hopes for 2010, but we lost 19 LEO's in January, and more than 20 children were left with only 1 parent, and that's just not right.

I believe when we post these fallen heroes, we are the privileged ones, by ensuring they receive the Honor and Respect they deserve for paying the ultimate price...  Just doing the job they loved. They go willingly into this line of work, not for the money or the uniform, but with the same calling and conviction of men and women of the Cloth...  Selfessly doing what they believe will best serve their fellow man and community..

So, please, raise your arm in a salute of honor and thanks to each and every one of these fallen heroes, and continue to post your respects and prayers to these men and women.

I am very proud that our Officer Down Group membership increased by over 900 members in 9 months. Thank you all, and God Bless each and every one of you for your support.

It has broken my heart to see so many of my brothers and sisters lost in such a short amount of time. However, we here at Policelink are lucky to have such a dilligent crew who steps up and keeps us informed and honors the sacrifices made.  The entire crew does an outstanding job!  I salute you for your hard work.

God Bless and Stay Safe.

This is a post I received via PM yesterday before I posted this thread. It is from opdse312. It is reprinted here with his permission.

"Hope all is well with you, kind sir. I wanted to let you know that I believe the team you have gathered to do the "Officer Down " notifications does a fine job, ...with such a heartrending assignment."

Thank you, Sarge and all of you.  Honoring those we have lost has been a special mission for me for nearly a year now in my own personal way on another site.  I was very touched and very honored to be given the opportunity to do the same here.  Each post that we are forced to do brings thoughts and prayers for those lost, and another prayer for those who remain, all of you who pick up a shield each day and go through the door putting your own lives on the line for us all.

There is no honor that is too high to be bestowed upon those who have given their lives for us.  There is no spotlight that is too bright to be focused on each one who dedicated their lives to the service of others so that we can live safely and sleep peacefully at night, and gave up everything while working to make that happen.

It is you, the members here, who honor them as we offer our prayers and our condolences.  It is you who will not let the world forget what these men and women did in service to all of us.  I'm proud to be part of that and I thank you all for supporting us and joining your voices together to say 'We will never forget'.  God bless.  ~Peggy
