So, as some of you may have seen in my introduction, I am going to be a dad in a few months. The problem is that my wife and I can't find a name at all. We can't even find one to disagree on. SUGGESTIONS PLEASE!!

don't name it after yourself or anybody else.  Why should your son be called "little whatever"  or "junior" for most of his life.

don't give it a name that you can't spell and remember the kid will have to be able to spell it too.

some popular names are cute, when the kid is little. What will it sound like when it is a grandparent?

don't use a name that you have previously used for a pet, it could give the kid a complex.

no names that can also serve as a title, like prince, major, lawyer. etc

stay simple.

Naming a child is a difficult thing.  It took a while for my wife and I to agree on names for our sons so I feel your pain.  I would suggest common names John, Thomas, James, Nancy, Mary, Barbara, ect.  In sixty years I don't think your child would appreciate Jimmaniy, or Zanzicheek.  Keep it simple and basic.    You have to look at the entire name and what it may mean.  You also want to think about how it will sound.  Say the full name out loud.  Does it sound right when you add the last name?

I would not name a child the same name as mine.  My dad and I have the same first name.  He is a Jr. but since I wasn't given a middle name I am not the third.  It has been a real pain at times.

Congratulations on your upcoming fatherhood.  I wish you and your wife a happy healty child who will bring you much joy and happiness.

Thanks for the advice. Sorry for not specifying, but it is a boy. We have girl names that we agree on, so that is probably why we are having a boy. Keep the suggestions rolling please!  We did get a book of 100,000 baby names, and we are half way through it. Nothing stands out yet.

I could never come up with boy names, I'm so happy I had a girl :D

My husband always says a boy should have a name he can be proud of when he's a man.  He's thankful he doesn't have a ridiculous trendy name.

Zanzicheek?? ROFL!!! Where did you get that from?

I was tasked with naming my Daughter (she just turned 4 in Nov). And I worried and brooded. Finally it hit me one day when I was mowing grass. I went as simple as it gets.

Eve.

It was the first ever Female name and it kinda worked out that my moms name is Evelyn

But as was said in previous replies, don't name him after you. That could cause some confusion in the future. I saw a guy get locked up because his dad had warrants. The reverse could happen also I suppose.

My wife named our two boys. It was my idea to use the names of nearby counties, but she wouldn't let me.

Before my daughter was born I bought the name books and they really didn't help me out much. I wound up picking a name from thinking about family and friends middle names. Ended up coming up with Bailey Alexis. One was a middle name of my best friend in school and the other was a middle name from a 2nd cousin. It is still a very hard choice. Good luck!!

My daughter is Eve Alexis. Mainly because Alexis is the only name I could find that fit with Eve.

Well, you are all against me. I keep telling my wife that if we can't figure out a name that he is going to be named after me. I think I'm about talked out of it. I was leaning toward Zanzicheek, until you guys made fun of it. Just kidding. I do want him to have a good, strong, not weird name. I like the simple names that you all suggested. The only problem is that I am number 5 out of 8 kids. My parents have used many names that you suggested, and the others are taken up by my many, many nephews. Maybe we'll get surprised and a girl will pop out. Then the problem will be solved.

I always Thought Clint ( as in eastwood), or John( as in Wayne) if I ever had a boy. My GF now is an attorney and with me being a Cop we were talking about Justice (as a name. Not the concept) which is good for a Boy or a girl really.

I would suggest some names, but the ones I want to suggest aren't normal names

For a boy: Luka, Nikola, Andrija, Marko

For a girl: Jelena, Lidja, Stefania, Iva

Why Adri, fancy meetin you here. I can't imagine where the influence for those might come from. They may not be normal American names, but who says any of us are normal anyway.

Actually, my mom wanted to give me and my brother to give us names people can pronounce but of course, dad won that battle obviously (brother's name is Ante, sisters' names are Marijana and Krstina).

You know its only cause you have girls names picked out that its so hard to pick out a boy!! Too funny try finding words that mean something to you in another language like Mars is the god of war also known as a leader and strong virtuous.... um stormy was what I was gonna nam my oldest daughter it means temptress and ooohhh boy it woulda so suited her she pushes every limit she can! Look up some words or phrases in a language you like (just make sure it is the correct translation and spelling!!!!!!!)

Good luck and best wishes!
