I am not a police officer.  I am a code enforcement officer and I wear a badge on my uniform.  We, in my department, have not worn a mourning band on our badges when our police officers have, while remembering a fallen officer from another jurisdiction.  However, it would seem appropriate for ALL badge bearing employees of a given city to wear the band if the one being remembered was a fellow code enforcement officer or a fellow city employee.  Are there others who find this to be the case in their city?

I would think that it would be appropriate for you to wear the mourning band.

Oh ya, I think you should find a respectful way to bring this issue up with your command staff.  Maybe even research and present what it would cost for you all to be issued a band.  They are very inexpensive.  I even bought my own.

I remember in my time using black electrical tape on my shield, tacky maybe but at the time my heart was there!

I actually started a trend back in my old Agency by wearing the Mourning Band. Many civilian employees seeing me wearing a band over my ID and no one telling me not to got others doing it. I don't know if they still do now that I'm not there, but I continue to wear a mourning band over my ID when the Department authorizes it or when I go to a wake or funeral for a LEO and am representing not only my PD but my Chapter of C.O.P.S.

I usually even have extra mourning bands to hand out to LEOs at the wake or funeral who don't have the bands for one reason or another. I explain I am from C.O.P.S. and ask if they would like a mourning band. I was turned down twice and one of those came back and told me he changed his mind and requested a mourning band. Our Chapter always keeps extras on hand as usually the bands grow legs and walk away when they are needed...as does the black elctrical tape...Ralph at least in our area the tape does still get used in a pinch...

Laughing my butt off, yeah you´re correct what I meant was before I purchased my first mourning band I and a few used right out of our car trunk tool box a piece of tape,  god you know what sticky tape does to mental when heated long enough?
