Posted over 3 years ago So after a very long 2 and a half years of processing and applying and testing I have finally been accepted to the Columbus Division of Police. I will be starting in the academy Feb 22, 2010. I'm so excited. Any bits of advice or thoughts of what to expect are greatly appreciated. I'm so excited to finally be starting my career. It's been a long time coming and I couldn't be happier. |

| Posted over 3 years ago You were in the military so you know the drill. Eyes and ears open mouth shut. Surround yourself with the best while at the academy. Watch out and beware the three "B's." Congrats and good luck. O'h by the way welcome to your glass house. |

| Posted over 3 years ago Columbus, Ohio? If so, congrats. I was chatting with a CPD officer not long ago and he was saying how the hiring freeze was in place and no further academies would be starting anytime soon. Regardless of Ohio or not, great job on getting in and sticking with it! |

| Posted over 3 years ago Thanks all. Good luck elaken. Mossman yes Columbus Police. It took me forever to get in. I finished their process in time for the class that President Obama saved but they cut the class size just before I finished and was too high on the list to get in that class. Iron I think it all just depends on where you're at. If it hadn't been for the economy I would have been out of the academy for just under a year. I am really looking forward to getting more information on when and where to report. So far all I have is an effective date of employment. No word yet on when to report for orientation or anything like that |

| Posted over 3 years ago Congrats! Told you it could be a long process. Why anyone thinks applying for a LE job only takes a few weeks is beyond me. Like others said, keep your mouth shut and your eyes and ears open. Don't worry about absorbing everything that is taught, nobody ever does. Just keep Officer Safety in mind....even in the Academy. Good luck. "People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf."

| Posted over 3 years ago Congratulations, brother. I live in Marion, Ohio and am presently in their academy. Unlike yours we have to pay to go, and in my opinion, it is very sloppy. I would love to go to Columbus. I lived there for many years and also in Grove City. Good luck and stay on top of your SPO's!!! |

| Posted over 3 years ago SPO's are student performance objectives, which our whole academy is based on. Everything we learn from definitions and amendments to felony stops and firearms are all SPO's, about 2,000 in total with many having 5-12 parts of the answer. Anyway, the final test from OPOTA is 200 of these 2,000 SPO's, 40 are on laws and crime elements, the rest spread out from everything we have learned. |

| Posted over 3 years ago That's great you got into this years academy. I heard that this might be it for this year. Well get ready for a long 6 months , it'll be worth it . With your military background , it should be easier for you then some of the rest. I wish you the best ,and with me working at a neighboring county maybe after you graduate I'll see you on the westside. Good luck |
