WHY IS THERE NOT A LAW THAT PROTECTS K9s FROM HARASSMENT. WHEN SOMEONE COMES UP TO THE CAR, KENNEL OR WHEREVER AND HARASSES YOUR DOG IS HARASSMENT TO ME. IF THEY GET BIT BY THAT DOG, THEY ARE SURELY GONNA TURN AROUND AND SUE THE DEPARTMENT. WHY CAN'T WE PROTECT OUR DOGS. WHEN THE COMPLAINT COMES IN THAT THEY GOT BIT, GUESS WHO WILL BE QUESTIONED TO THE BRIM.

While I am not familiar with the Policy on K-9 Harassment I am very familiar with the Police Link policy of posting an introduction in the Introduction Forum. Please read the TOU's and post an Intro and I'm sure some of our K9 guys will chime in with there 2 cents on the subject.

Many states do not have a law for harrassing a K9, but it is a local law or ordanance in many areas to harrass or interfere.  If it is not in your area you may want to draft a proposal and see what you can do about it.  It may fall neatly into another area such as disorderly conduct, for example.

Most states have a law against harrassing police animal. You'd have to check your own state to see what it actually says. The law generally includes, canine and horses.

As for a complaint by a citizen that is bitten, action taken will depend entirely on the circumstances. there is considerable case law that references a bite by a police service dog.

I agree w/D Frost. In Michigan it is a crime to harass police dogs and horses. Most other states have similar laws from my experience.

In California we have the 600 PC sections.  (A)(B)(C) Sections.  (A) is the injury or murder gives them five years in prison (B) is harassment and is a year in jail
