I am 22 years old and pursing a career in Law Enforcement in the state of NJ. I  will be attening community college in January to obtain my associates degree in criminal justice. I am also looking to take the civil service exam this upcoming new year and cannot find the dates on which the exam will be held. I am also looking for a good pre-study course I can attend to prepare myself for the exam. I have gone to the NJ cilvil service website but cannot find any information regardng  the current test dates. I have sent them an email as well with no answer yet. I will be calling them next week to see if I can get any information. If anyone has any information or any advice on taking the Civil Service Exam I would really appreciate it. I am new to the forums and look forward to learning and reading as much information as I can. Thanks for your time

That site should answer any questions you have about the civil service exam except for where to take the prep course. Bernstein or something similar offers something, that i have to ask around for also at my dept. Looks like they will formally post a statement June 1 this year for the date of the exam which they are shooting to be held in the fall. Hope this helps you and I have been told to definately take the course, its around $500 but worth it, i first took the test when i was 18 and got an 80 which isnt bad but it is nowhere near what you need to be hired as a full time LEO. Good Luck and if you are shooting for a particular dept. check into them to make sure they do not need residency which is common in any civil service towns.
