Posted 20 days ago If you need a K9 Mentor, I'm willing to do the job. I have 23 years military working dog and 21 years in law enforcement K9. I am currently the Director or Canine Services (fancy word for dog trainer) for the TN Highway Patrol. We currently have 45 working dogs in the "fleet". I've been a handler of drug, patrol, explosives, cadaver, mine tunnel and booby trap and track dogs over the years. As well as being an instructor, dog trainer and program manager. | Posted 18 days ago you seem to be the person I've been looking for. I andled a dog in the army but now that im a civilian it's hard to find a trainer that provides what im looking for. I only know so much and i;m getting to the end of my road with her. I have a belgum check mix import. She just turned 6 mths and she is so egar to please. She is already biting on command and very protective. But it seem she is learning to use her nose and other sences really quick. I usually only have to she her something one or two times and she pretty much has it down. But recently she has been getting really aggressive and doesnt want our other dogs around me as well as the wife.Lol. And she always has to have something with my scent on it such as a shirt or pair of shorts. But when it comes to bite work she'll go all day but when it comes to other trainning she seems so easily distracted. I want to get her trained and see if a department will bring her on. Do you think u can help? |

| Posted 18 days ago The only way I could really help would be to tell you to seek out a trainer that can help you do a couple of things. 1. The dog needs to be evaluated to see if it has the potential to be a patrol/detector dog. Just because it gets aggressive around people doesn't mean it would be a good dog. 2. You need to get a handle on the dog. The behavior you are describing usually occurs because the dog is young, confused and not given the proper guidance on what is and is not acceptable behavior. You can see, my help can only be in telling you to get practical, on site, assistance in your training. It's not something you can learn from a forum.
