I need a little help… I am currently wishing to start a patch collection of all state, county and city police and sheriff patches. The Department I work for in Arkansas has a rather large collection and that’s how I got hooked on the idea. The only problem is I do not know an effective way to start. Most departments want to trade patches and I have non to trade. If you have a patch collection out their please post and give me some pointers on how to get this thing off the ground and running.

All help greatly appreciated

Ive been collecting off and on for 20 years. I just started up again after a 5 year hiatus. It helps to make good friends with the person responsible for patch distribution at your agency. When I first started collecting my department gave away patches as a reward for jobs well done. Some agencies have moved to giving out challenge coins for this now a days. My department is broke and has stopped giving away patches all together. However, being good friends with the person responsible for patch distribution, I am allowed to pay for my own patches and include them with the department's order. This provides me with the bulk quanity discount.

I always take some patches and business cards with me when I travel. Even if a local copper doesnt have patch at the time he usually will send one back to me in the mail or give mine to someone he/she knows who collects and they reciprocate.  I have had some success trading with cops overseas. They are willing to trade their patches for almost anything USA police related. I have traded patches for DHS, FBI, ATF publications, miranda cards, police officer or K9 trading cards etc. A good website for international trading is www.brotherhoodofthebadge.com There are patch groups hat groups and other you name it police collectible groups. A google search of police patch collecting will also provide contacts.

Send me an e-mail at my PoliceLink mail address and I will hook you up with one of mine for starters,
