I called the application processing number today and basically there is no shot of getting into the july 2010 class.  We porbably won't get a list number for about 6 months.  That brings us to april or may.  Then all the paper work, medical, psych,etc..  I asked when they plan on calling for this exam and the woman told me probably for the jan 2011 class.  Which is only a little more than a year away.  So now it's hurry up and wait.  So don't quit your jobs just yet boys and girls.  Get all your stuff in order, get in shape, then wait a little more.  I was hoping for the july class to fellas but it doesn't look like it's going to happen.

At least we got the first part out of the way...

Great job on the perfect score by the way..

I got all the memory questions correct.  That was one of my biggest concerns.

If I don't get called from this exam I am going to move in with my girlfriend and claim residency with her in NYC to get those 5 extra points.  May not seem like a lot, but it would bring me up to a 95 which seems like it would bring me even to a lot of other posters on this site.  I am hoping a 90% will be plenty good enough to get me a call for further processing.

I hate to be a downer, but I got a 96 last March, I still haven't gotten called. I have a friend that has been in for a year, he got a 92 but was in the academy with a bunch of people who took the test up to two years before him with high 80's for scores, so it may be a while. Don't go quitting your present jobs.

So glad I took this test in May 1998.  They called me 2 weeks later to start the processing.  At that time you needed to be 22 and I was only 21.  (They keep changing that) .  Only had to wait to the following July and I was hired.  Ahhhhh the good old days.  Good luck guys and gals I hear they may be putting a large class starting July.

So I just spoke to an NYPD officer.... He said that we should not be surprised to have to wait 2 years since the classes have been smaller than normal

I know what you're sayin' about holding onto the current job. I'd like to get a new job, but I'm not sure if that's a good thing to do at this point since I don't know when I'll be called. I don't want to get a new job and then have to leave a few months later or something for the NYPD.

You'll be waiting awhile. I took the test in February and didn't get my results until the summer, so you have a wait.

Not for nothing but i sometimes wish NYPD was still paying mid 20's, because now there's a flood of people doing it who have no real love for the job. I personally know some people who took the test as a last resort career because they can't get jobs, what a joke.

I just took the police officer yesterday at Lafayette (Exam # 0309) on the computer. I got a 95% on it. I just need to get my credits now. How long do they hold your score for? Just wondering.....

WHy would you wanna be going for a job that still paid in the 20s? I'll be honest, the money did play a role in my deciding to want to become a cop. Don't get me wrong, I'm doing it cuz I like the job, but I'm not going to lie, I'd also like the money.

I took this same exam myself and im getting the feeling we will be waiting for a while now. But like many have said, it will be more time for us to get in shape or finish up school if thats the case (it is with me). Good luck to all.

I know what your saying bro, just to weed out the people who dont really want to be Officers...i've heard of plenty of people who already have my dream job and dont appreciate it, or treat as if its a regular job at the food market. I hate to hear those kind of things knowing there are alot of people really commited and wanting the job.

Like I said.  I spoke to an NYPD officer and he said our test (8132) will likely be on a 2 year wait. This is because of the amount who have taken the exam, and the size of academy's.  So, if academy's increase the wait may decrease, and vis versa.

I have taken the walk-in test 0309 and scored 94.4

Im wondering if anyone knows anything about the cadet program for college students?

Do cadets in the program get proirity over people waiting on the list to be hired?

Also, when your in the program are you obligated to finish your bachelors degree, or can you opt out as soon as your called for the hiring process?

yes cadets get priotity because the city is paying part of their tuition they cannot become hired until they turn 21, finish their 4 year degree and pass the entrance exam, if you opt out of the cadet program you must repay all the money the city has given to you to pay for school.

I was wondering if anyone can tell me what the difference is between the written exam and the walk in exams...I'm not sure which one I should take, if one is better than the other.. thanks!

one is computer based and you will get the results immediently (walk-in).  the other is paper based and taken in a classroom setting.

Another advantage of the computer test, is that it will get you on the list ahead of the next huge group that is taking the written version.

Cool, it looks like my best bet is to take the the walk in. Hopefully it's given again in March before the written one later in the month.

Its not like u think its.....I can promise u that. People often watch Cops and think its all great. This job is great and I love it.......but its not what u think its gonna be......trust me.

Would you like to share some of your expeirances policing in the city with us? I am always interested to hear the 'reality' of the job.
