A Charlotte-Mecklenburg police officer was seriously injured around 4am this morning when his police car wrecked on Fairview Road, a short distance east at SouthPark Mall. He was responding to a priority call when his car hit a ditch and flipped a few times. We want to keep Joe and his family in our thoughts and prayers this morning.

Thanks guys we really appreciate it. things dont look that great for him at the moment. he's still in critical condition and prognosis doesnt look great for him to survive this one. he's 23 and only been on the dept a little over a year. so we gotta pray hard he comes through this if that is what is meant to be.

I found out over the weekend Joe is awake now!! he does have a broken shoulder and his back is fractured in 2 places but that should heal. he is obeying some commands and seems to be coming around... keep those prayers coming they are helping!! and thanks again to all of you for what you do. you never hear it enough!!

It's great news that he's improving.  I'll keep him in my prayers for a full recovery.

That's great progress! From someone who has been there please encourage his fellow officers to visit him as much as they can. Showing him support and that he is still a viable part of the family is crucial to his healing. Like I said, I know this from personal experience and a visit from the guys makes your heart really feel great. Please give him our very best and we hope that he will be able to get on the Internet and join us. Prayers continuing for his steady and complete recovery.

I really hope that Joe pulls through. He is in my thoughts and prayers. I hope that he makes a speedy recovery and that his family is handeling the ordeal okay. I can't imagin how worried about Joe his family must be. I'm hoping for the best for Joe and his family.  Also, I'm glad to hear about the improvement that Joe has made. Keep up the prayers and the good work guys and gals.

great continued progress. here is what was said about yesterday and some of the things the family are asking for in areas he needs help in..

cant thank you guys enough for what you endure each day you put on those uniforms and go out into the communities. you never know what your day will be like or what you will face and the dangers that lurk around the corner... So I am thankfull to have friends like you and say a prayer for wisdom and safety for all who serve out there.

• Renewed strength (working on getting better is very hard work for Joseph


• Pray the dislocation in his arm heals soon


• Pray for Joseph’s short term memory to improve


• Pray for his left side to be strengthened


• Pray he will be balanced and start walking with only one person & ultimately on his own


• Pray he will be strong enough to be released from Rehab by December 3^rd (the target date)


• Pray God will give strength and comfort to his family


• Pray & thank God for his caregivers

Joseph's schedule today:

7:00 - 8:00 a.m. OT w/Sara - practice eating breakfast.

8:00 - 8:30 - Speech w/Jen  wrote his schedule, and made a 100% on his money worksheet.  Tyler visited tonight and when we told Tyler of Joseph's academic success he told Joseph he was going to make the Dean's list.

9:30  OT w/Sara - arm exercises on the table with bean bags; arm bike - longest consecutive time 4 minutes 5 seconds.  Visual scanning worksheets.

10:30 - Noon PT w/Marla  Practiced wheelchair to mat; new wheelchair; practiced pushing himself in chair with right arm and legs; walked entire gym and into hallway with quad cane.

LUNCH

1:00 Speech w/Jen Joseph took his chocolate milkshake to speech to practice swallowing (actually he didn't finish it from lunch); reasoning/cognitive worksheet; drank milkshake w/no coughing (thin liquid, when it reaches the back of his throat - not on thin liquid yet) He did great!  Jen gives homework.  Joseph said he thought he was finished this part of life.  Just finished his homework, Dad said it is correct.  Takes you back to the good old school days.



Joseph has kept his great sense of humor.  Yesterday Jen gave him exercises to help the left side of his face muscles.  They are a little weaker than the right.  Until now, with his weak muscles on the left of his whole body, and his outdated glasses prescription, and the healing of his eyes, he hadn't seen his face too closely.  The paper with the face exercises has a mirror pasted to the middle so he can see the facial movements as he practices.  Joseph only realized he has a few missing teeth yesterday while practicing his facial exercises.  His joke about this (Jen told him this this morning)  He has summer teeth....  Some are here, and some aren't.
