"Military Law Enforcement" only specialty topic with unlimited access?

Posted about 1 month ago Just wondered if anyone else had noticed why the specialty "Military Law Enforcement" is the only group that has unlimited access, as opposed to the other specialties that are restricted. Does this reflect how many people view "MP/SF" as less then law enforcement? I know as an MP we hear it all the time "You're not a real cop," this gives me the same impression. Anybody else think this is odd? |

| Posted about 1 month ago My take would be because civilian police dont really need access to specific military information. Most civilian police officers at the state/county/municipal/campus level do not have federal security clearances unless they are on federal task forces run by the DoJ or the DHS....and almost never have clearances through the DoD.
Military Police are first and foremost military personnel. And as a Soldier, your first job is as a rifleman...we all know the mos is secondary to the first job as a war fighter. Being that is the case, and throwing in the security clearance needed to be a 31A, 31B, 31D, or 31E, I really dont think policelink wants to advocate "spillage"....which is to say releasing classified information on what amounts to a public record information outlet on the net. OPSEC..... If anything, if PL were going to make the military law enforcement a restricted category, it should be restricted to all but military police and the like. What I find is that only a few MPs stick around policelink for a significant amount of time. Those who have been MPs or are MPs in the military reserves/guard and are also civilian police officers are certainly a dime a dozen on PL, but I find those who are active MPs dont get involved much in the discussions and commenting because PL is indeed heavily geared toward state based peace officers. You wont even find a large amount of federal security police or special investigators (what the Texas CCP classifies FBI, DEA, DSS, B-ATFE..etc etc) on PL...mainly state, county, city, and campus peace officers. As for whether MPs, Security Forces, Masters at Arms are "real police", that has been discussed here on PL at length...a not too in depth search will surely reveal multiple (and drawn out) "debates" by those with differing points of view on the matter... And thankyou for your service to the nation as a Soldier. Have you deployed yet? Been through SRT I and II? PSD school? Air Assault? Airborne? Ranger? |

| Posted about 1 month ago I do agree with the fact that we are riflemen first, however, if our MOS is in the 31 series, we do conduct L&O and some of our issues about L&O are geared towards issues that civilian departments wouldn't run into, but that are still Law Enforcement Sensitive, or just things that the MP world thinks about or says in the briefing room, but don't necessarily want the world to know. And civilian LEOs have the same responsibility as us, for the most part, as far as OPSEC. Even in a "Restricted Area" like PL, most information should not be shared if it is LES. But we do share a little bit more with each other. Most, and I emphasize MOST 31 series should, and do, observe OPSEC. But as far as the issues go, we also get the same officer safety notices, gear issues, all that stuff, and just like SWAT or K-9, we have our own issues for our g. I know I've been on PL for a while, before going active duty, I worked with several civilian departments and I like keeping up on the L&O world. I think it also helps me create a little better relationship with the surrounding departments that we work with. I'm not trying to say that PL is wrong, or showing and disrespect to MPs, just something I noticed. And I've seen in the past when the issues of civilian "vs." MP, so to speak, it usually does spark a good discussion. I do think that an "RESTRICTED MP" area would be a good idea, but I guess if/until that happens, it's up to us to police up our own. |

| Posted about 1 month ago I totally agree, i do believe that one should need Restricted Access to Military Law Enforcement, just like all the other specialty topics. There are alot of Military Police groups on PL and i am apart of most, but our forum topic should be RESTRICTED! |
