Posted 2 months ago Would being an active reservist hinder me from being hired onto an department? I am considering joining but don't know if I would want to if it would prevent me from getting a job. Thanks. |

| Posted about 1 month ago I know that there are several people who are part of the Air National Guard that are also police officers in local police departments here in NH. I am not sure about the Reserves though. Smoke em if you got em. When you view life through bipolar glasses everything looks rosy. |

| Posted about 1 month ago Jason: It should not hurt you. When I was hired I was a member of the national guard and the department was okay with it however, working weekends they were not to whippy about giving me the time off for drills. They did not want me to reinlist. |

| Posted about 1 month ago Its federal law that you cannot be discriminated against based on military reserve service and I have never had any problems being a dual serviceman. My job honors my drill weekends and supports me while I am deployed overseas. The larger departments will work better with you about this than the smaller ones. That would be my only advice.....if you are a military member in the reserve components, try for the larger agencies. If you try to join an agency that has lets say 20 sworn officers total....you may have problems getting hired. |

| Posted about 1 month ago I will tell you I did both for all of my 15 years as a federal law enforcement officer and local police officer. I retired in 2007 from the Air Force Reserves. The only problem is with promotions, I was not promoted to Supervising rank at the federal level because I was deployed on a constant basis since 2001. They would never admit it because they knew that I could file a lawsuit because of they actions. If you are going to do both, just try to work it out with your supervisors when the best time for your 2 weeks of active duty would be for them and your unit.
Good Luck. |
