Assault on K-9

Posted 2 months ago During my K-9's last apprehension, the suspect punched my K-9 in the head numerious times while we were fighting. I got the suspect cuffed, then for the first time had trouble outing him. Now my K-9's level of aggression is through the roof and we have to use an electronic collar at training to get him to out. He is even trying to fight through the shock and continue to bite. Any ideas other than electric to bring him back down? |

| Posted 2 months ago What you've witnessed is a dog that is truly in "fight drive". Some learn they really like it. Don't panic, training does solve the problems. Sometimes we just have to go a bit back to basics and make sure all the little things are being done correctly. It's not all that uncommon for a dog involved in a true fight and not just a tussle with a decoy, to react as yours did. Start working on basic controlled aggression, bite - out, have decoy freeze. Use electronics if necessary, but ensure the training sequences are straight forward to the dog so he is not misinterpreting any actions that are going on. His aggression has always been there, it was just this instance that he decided to use it all. Kind of a " if you open the can your are getting all" scenario, ha ha.
