Horrible two weeks,

A lot of teen casualties in our area.  Alcohol and speed related accidents

Car accident…… (alcohol main factor)
child 19 victim in coma, not sure of damage (alcohol main factor)

4 days later…
Child of 17 collapses, “bad batch of drugs”, may be brain damaged beyond repair……….

6 days later….
Car accident……..(speed main factor, buzz drinking a factor)

Passenger …..One child 18 dead, burnt beyond recognition ; parents buried him yesterday Saturday, the day they were suppose to be driving him to University.

Passenger…… One child, 18 burnt legs, traumatized for life, passenger

Driver……One child, 18 burnt 40% of his body, permanent lung damage, life destroyed, boy who died was his best friend since the age of 3…………got most burns jumping into the burning car trying to get his friend out…..did not stop even when he was on fire………. a facing charges….

We are not talking of bottom feeders, we are talking honor students, basically overall good kids, just stupid choices……

What does it take?

I am having a rough time looking for people for my kids to look up to anymore………….
Is it just me…..never done drugs…….never drove after even one drink……………
What to say to get through to the kids........

The world is not all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place It will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me or nobody is going to hit as hard as life. But it is not about how hard you hit, it is about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward,!

Maybe tougher pentalties for kids with alcohol.  Where i worked years ago initially when we caught kids with alcohol in possesssion we just took it away and poured it out, prosecutor didn't want to prosecute.  The county coroner finally got the prosecuter's office to start prosecuting, the coroner said he was tired of doing autopsies on kids and pushed for reform, as soon as the new standards came out we started charging kids with alcoho possession, i think it might have helped a little.

We've been hit by a lot of shootings/homicides.  All kids or early 20's.

That happened a lot in Colorado. Now when you get your license at 16, you cannot have anyone in your car. other than immediate family, for 6 months. After 6 motnhs you may have 1 person who is not in your immediate family. After 1 year you are unrestricted.

Just going down the interstate near my house for 10 miles, there are probably 6 signs that designate where someone died, and most of them are people under 25. That is just going one way.

Teenagers think they are indestrutable. I have had to take dead kids out of cars that were my children's friends. (Thought one girl was my daughter until I saw the scar on her shoulder). Dead boy was my daughters boyfriend. I had to tell my daughter that her boyfriend was dead along with his parents. If you did not think that was tough then guess again. The girl lived but has severe burn scars on her head, shoulders, torso and legs. The driver had a broken arm and two knocked out teeth. Two teens dead. that was 10 years ago and the kids in our area have forgot about them. They still drink and drive and we do what we can but can't be every where at once. Parents have to step up to the plate and be a parent. Stop making us L. E. raise their kids. When little Johnny or Joanie get a Ticket dont give them their keys back for months or years. My dad would have kicked my a$$. But we all know that kids will drink alcohol and do drugs and we will go on picking them out of the ditches. WHY cause that is what we do, we serve the public and try to protect them. God bless and be safe.
