| Posted 3 months ago No. "Combat Engineering" encompasses any of the number of specialties that are construction trade type jobs. For instance, I was a wiring specialist. This meant I worked on anything from the EOD robot (that is used for bombs), to antenna towers, buildings, airplanes, radios, etc... Combat Engineering encompasses wiring, carpentry, paving/maintaining roads, explosive ordinance disposal, water/gas/sewer/electric/communications (utilities) and anything you can think of. In the desert many combat engineers are working on explosives, destroying enemy communications (and contraband), and finding ways to get troops across roadblocks and rivers. I loved it because one day I would be with an EOD team blowing up roadside bombs, and the next day I would be working in an airplane, in an air traffic control tower, on an antenna (some upwards of 800+ feet high)... You get a taste of everyones job, and people are forever greatful for the work you provide them. In the desert, you can trade your services for good food, cable tv, and anything you can imagine. Do you have to be crazy? No. But you do have to be mechanically inclined, be able to think on the go, and understand what your customer wants (and be able to deliver). People love combat engineers, we make life easier on everyone else. |

| Posted 3 months ago their main job in Iraq isroute clearance, ie to search for IEDs with special MRAPs designed to "interrogate" IEDs. When they find one, they call in EOD to come out and blow the ordnance. Combat Engineers are one of those modular type fighting forces though...can can assault and obstacle, they can act as infantry, they can clear mine fields, rig up charges for dynamic entry, etc etc. |

| Posted 3 months ago If you want a job where you're constantly in danger, and can be mischevious, join the infantry. If you want a job that will pay big $$$ when you get out, go combat engineering. Ever heard that phrase "careful what you wish for" - The military invented it! It's easy to join the military thinking "it won't happen to me". Well, in 2003, it happened to me. That's a topic in itself, but bottom line "careful what you wish for". The military has EVERY single civilian job you can think of. Just make sure that you pick a job you can do as a civilian (otherwise you're not going to learn a transferable skill). Pick what YOU want to do, not what the recruiter wants you to do. I also encourage you to ask questions here, and in other forums, because a recruiter will give you half-truths (or worse). Do not rush your decision, join on your terms. If you do it right, there's bonus money, educational benefit, better assignments, etc... |

| Posted 3 months ago What jobs can you get out of four years of Combat Engineering in the Army?
I have also talked to the Air Force and Navy and both are saying their own BS.
Just wanna be able to get away, be safe, and build a life I can be comfortable. |

| Posted 3 months ago Well off hand you can be a
There's plenty more, but these are just the ones I can think of. Don't rule out the other branches jsut because you've heard the Marines are the toughest. I don't know how many times I've heard soliders, sailors and marines say "I wish I would've joined the AirForce". The only difference between my job and that of my marine counter-part was that I got to live in a hotel, and recieved a 60K bonus after training. They got up early to exercise, and I got up late for breakfast. We all worked on the same projects, showed up to work at the same time, had the same boss, etc... (although our funding was 100 times better). I would never in a million years put down a branch of service, but I will say that it's the career field that makes you happy, not your branch of service. Do what you want to do, and evaluate all the perks of each branch of service to get what you want out of a military career. |
