Remember the days and months following 9/11? Remember how everywhere you looked you would see flags flying everywhere? Why is it that in a time of a National tragedy that we all become very patriotic, but it never seems to last? It's like a popular fad that comes and goes!

The men and women of our armed forces (You know the ones: they are the ones that defend the very freedoms that we enjoy each and every day) are stretched thin around the world, but it seems like the support for these brave individuals is dwindling more and more everyday. They need the support from home to keep up their morale.

At the very least, we should be sending care packages from our communities or letters of support from the children in our schools. My Boy Scout troop makes folded flags from the little 5x8 inch stick flags and sends them overseas for the soldiers to keep in their pockets. It's the little things like this that show these men and women that their efforts are appreciated!

Let's get back to being patriotic!

Let Freedom Ring...and RING LOUDLY! ! !

Patriotism has gone the way of our "POLITICAL LEADERSHIP" , welcome to the U.S.S.A. ..

I respectfully disagree!

Patriotism should reflect the individuals that love and support their country! From the birth of this great country, their have been political leaders that that we don't agree with! All of the problems that we are facing today can not and should not be blamed on the POTUS...Society as whole plays a huge part in in what we stand for as a nation.

My original thread stated that in the days and months following 9/11, everywhere you looked you would see a flag flying! 2 years later, people were complaining that we were engaged in a war that "can't be won."

I don't want this discussion to become political!, I want it to be PROUD for what it is and for what WE are! There are enough negative posts that we can take part in if we so choose!

I'm proud to be an American and I'm proud to wave a flag regardless of what is taking place in Washington D.C.

I have my opinion also. What is taking place in Washington is against the United States Constitution as it was intended by our Founding Fathers to be free and worship as we please and be "FREE FROM A TYRANNICAL GOVERNMENT". As of now the the powers that be are trying to change what our Founding Fathers and many more after them have died for. It has nothing to do any one Political party because all can share the blame for what is going on. "A SOCIALIZED AMERICA IS NOT AMERICA".   THAT SIR IS MY OPINION!

I got your back Coshane!! LET FREEDOM RING, LET THE FLAGS FLY HIGH! FOR WE ARE ONE NATION UNDER GOD!!! Patriotism needs to come back to the American People. Too many have lost the pride in their country. Too many have forgotten the thousands that lost their lives protecting our freedom, the ones who survived those battles or the multitude that served the country during the peacetime (I'm included in the latter). America seems to bond and show their true Spirit when something happens to us. Too bad it takes something like 9-11 for that to happen.

You said it all right there, 36TR. I for one was in the military during the sixties when View Nam started up, and when I first went in, people were right behind us. Unfortunately in the next 3 to 4 years, times had changed, and when I got out I had to come home in civilian clothes in order to just get home safely. People sure changed in a quick hurray. They also did it again after 9-1-1. At first things were good, but later when memories faded, and old hated feelings started anew against military people; the civilian types got goofy again.  Apparently we will never see the pride like it was during WWII, when people had clear heads, and knew where their freedoms had come from. Today these young types, that learned from their parents (Viet Nam age Youngsters), are going around bashing military people. Someone would say that the children learned that bashing thing from their parents, but it is a bigger problem than just the parents. Our school systems are teaching this so-called social behavior that is loaded with socialism. Our youngsters are having their heads filled with this junk, and that has to be reversed before it is too late. Our children do not know what real history is, because they are being taught this new social crap that dosn't even tell the truth about history. Remember they old saying that says, '  If You do not learn from History, then you will be bound to repeat it over again. '   -ceb   ...

I strongly agree that our public school system is corrupting our youth with the teachings of whichever form of government happened to be in office at that time.  I think schools should keep it to the basics and let the parents teach the morals and ethics.  The only problem with that is parents are no longer interested in the teachings of the kids these days.  At least some of them aren't.  There was discussion a little while back about our district going to longer schools days.... not because it would benifit the kids, but because it would help the parents who needed the kids to stay later in the day so they could work.
