I currently work both the afternoon shift (1630-0230) or the midnight shift (2100-0700), as I have gotten older I find that I have a harder and harder time sleeping during the daylight hours.  I've tried covering my windows, working out before I go to sleep, not working out before I go to sleep, etc.  Nothing seems to work.

Anyone have any ideas?

Funny, I've had the opposite occur.  I'm 42, on patrol, and have no problem sleeping.  I do have blinds that cut out all the light, and either sleep with earplugs (custom made and soft so ya don'tnotice them) or have a fan going to cut out the outside noise.  I also sleep in the basement when it gets hot out.

Try this...warm milk!  Sounds silly but it is soothing.  I also occasionally put a hot water bag on my stomach.  My massage therapist said it pulls all the blood to your stomach which helps the digestive process which apparently tells your body its sleep time.  Don't drink, work out, or watch TV before bed.  These are all stimulants.  Well, not the liquor but that prevents a deep restfull sleep.

Good luck! zzzzzzzzzzz

My grandmother told me to try warm cocoa

I understand completely.  I work three 6pm to 6am days followed by a 6p to midnight,  I spend my off days trying to adjust to the families schedule and my work days trying to sleep.  I've tried blackout shades and tin foil over the windows, ear plugs, face mask, soft back ground music, alcohol, fans blowing from every which angle and nothing really works that well for me. I finally pretty much quit ingesting caffeine after 3 am and that along with the fans blowing seems to have helped the most.  When I was young the coffee never bothered me but in the past year it has gotten to where it keeps me awake.
