Posted almost 6 years ago I'm aware that if you're between the ages of 18-25 and you have not registered with the Selective Service System you may not be eligible for Federal Jobs. Does anyone know if this ineligibility applies to other LE jobs such as Police, Sheriff, Corrections, etc.? |

Posted almost 6 years ago Yes. As a Background Investigator for my Dept., it is one of the mandatory things we check, per CA POST guidelines: https://www4.sss.gov/regver/verification1.asp

Posted almost 6 years ago Bravo. I've never been privy to the entirety of the background check process, but if a male is unwilling to register for Selective Service, he should have no right to hold government jobs with government benefits, authority, etc.

Posted almost 6 years ago Why the heck would someone NOT register with them now? They are not going to call anyone up. That just shows a lack of responsibility to me, much less a lack of patriotism. I firmly believe everyone should serve their country in some form or another for a minimum of two years. For those who want to be LEO's they should be regular military and no CO's. If you are a CO with the military then you are one in a local para-military like the police and I don't want you one the front line with me. The decision is yours and must be an honest one that you make and I will think no less of you when your serve, just not on the front line where you may have to kill someone to protect me or another person.

Posted almost 6 years ago Robo, sorry...but I don't understand what you're saying about the military part. I understand that everyone should submit for selective service (that's a given!), but what did you mean with the rest of what you wrote?
