Greetings all-

I was wondering if someone can point me in the direction of a K9 grant that will allow our handler to get a vest for his dog. Its something needed that we just don't have resources for. Any information would be wonderful!

I'm not aware of any current grants for dog vests. We've always had unsolicited donations to cover the vests for the dogs. That's where getting out there and doing public demos and being exposed to the community pays off.

I had mine donated by a local kennel club. They also donated a nice first aid kit. Not sure about your area, but it may be worth looking into

I have found the best way to get the money for these type of things is through community donations.  We do alot of demos at the schools and community events.  At opening day for local baseball we will do demos and set up a stand outside where kids can have their picture taken with the K-9 teams.   We had a bunch of t-shirts made up which we sell also.  You would be surprised how much of a positive response you get from the public.

Check the web for vest-a-dog groups in your area.  They are your best bet to have one donated to you.

I wanted to take a moment to thank you guys for the information... because fo your help, its confirmed that our K9 will have a vest in the next few weeks.

Amazing that there are people out there with a desire to help law enforcement unconditionally. We Spoke with Susie Gene who has a "vest a dog" program. Another member of PL was able to obtain a vest for his dog through Susie. She's a living, breathing angel.

Glad you got a vest, if that is what you wanted. Just remember, train with the vest on. Your dog will need to acclimate himself to the weight and the way a vest can inhibit their natural movements. Even though it's very slight, the dog definately needs to train while wearing the vest.
