Not long ago, I heard some guy complaining about the lack of manners and respect that he felt the young of our country seem to have theese days. This dude was dressed in a dirty T- shirt, needed a shave And told every one who would listen,That he didnt need to work, He was on welfare. Well, I really didnt want to talk to this a-hole at the time,But figured that his question as to "Whats happened to the youth of America?" Diserves an answer,So here goes:

The young-folks of our country are busy right now ,Their fighting a war,So that your fat ass can sit on that bar stool and complain. They are the young father,Who wont see his little girl born,Because he is trying desperately to secure the freedoms of other little girls he doesnt even know,In a place godless and filled with terror.

She is the medic,So very scared,And wanting to go home,Wondering how she will take care of a husband and three kids with two missing legs.

Or how about the truck driver,Who pushes his truck through hell and fire each day,To make sure the forward-units get what they need,Shaking so

badly, he cant keep his feet on the pedals..Some are too young to legally have a cold beer on a hot day,But too many come home to crying,Flag-waving citizens in a flag draped box.Still others go through the hell and horror of a war,Just to get on sites like Police-link,And inquire as to how they can wear a badge,So that they can serve thier community,Like they served this nation. Some of theese young americans go back into Hell two and three times willingly,Only to come home to ignorance and disdain from so called enlightened Americans,Who "Dont believe in the war" I know well whats happened to our young folks. My small town,Three times,Has lined the streets and cried,As our dead youth were welcomed home.

And still they go,Never thinking with all the false-bravado of the young, That they could be next.

Well, now you know what has happened to the youth of our country.

Now shave your face,And get a damned job!

Amen, I agree with you on that one. Maybe if scumbag was cleaning up his act, he would not have time to complain.   -ceb   ...

Unfortunatly friend, that is only about 1.5 percent of the youth in America.  The other 98.5% are at home sitting on their fat asses watching TV and not doing anything constructive, or out selling/doing drugs, or getting pregnant at 16 years old, or at some hippy protest spitting on soldiers, or at some liberal college being fed lies about the "great saten" America.  Very few of us make or have made the concious choice to stand up and defend our nation and everything that it stands for.   The youth of America are lost...

Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, signifies in the final sense a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed.

Respectfully,I cannot agree. If as many of our nations young were as bad as you say they are,Then there would not be as many fighting for this nations interests right now. Could it be that you only see the bad over here, Because our nations best are answering the call in the middle east?. There will always be patriots, And there will always be do-nothings,And it always seems that the patriots are out-numbered,But as long as there is one left,With the fire of liberty burning in his heart,Then the fight for the freedoms we hold dear will go on. Those young-people that fight in harms way are our very best ,And the best ,the good the patriots are almost always outnumbered by the sorry,But they are strong of will,And know what is right. I see a very good thing happening. One by one,Many come home to patrol our streets.Theese young heros,After serving our nations interests,Will come home to help protect its citizsens. Each generation in this great nations history,Someone has said that its young were lost,But always, There were young Americans Who would give everything for our way of life.My nation is too dear to me,Too sacred. I MUST see the glass as half-full.The do-nothings will fall by the wayside,The heroes will come home to help the United States regain and maintain its rightful place in the world.

Gentleman, as a member of todays youth (for better or worse) I can see both sides of each of your arguments. Yes, absolutely there are kids these days that take great pride in our great Nation and have bravely chosen to serve us and keep us safe and are great contributors to oru soceity. However, there are also the "other ones".

I unfortunately knew many kids in my old public high school (before I went to military school) that made me ashamed of my generation. You see these kids with their pants sagging down, their hair long and their clothes filthy and smelling like dope complaining about how terrible our country is and how socialism is supposedly the way to go and it makes you absolutely sick. Too many kids these days feel as though a free ride should be given to them just because their parents are this person, or  they went to such and such school and majored in this or that. It gets to be very disconcerting. They complain about the way things are run and refuse to vote (an honor given to us and preserved by the brave men and women of our nation's armed forces) and deny our veterans their rightful welcome when they come home from the war. If you ask me, kids these days would be a lot better off if their parents weren't coddling them so much. Whatever happened to pride in our country? Whatever happened to respect for veterans, elders and parents? More importantly, what the heck happened to common sense?! I've had some (former) acquaintances b**ch and moan about how "unfair" some judge was for charging them with a DUI, or how "stupid" some Police Officer was for giving them a ticket for going 60 in a school zone, and the list goes on and on.

There are, however, good kids out there and I'm certainly not trying to say that there aren't, but unfortunately the loud, stupid, and ignorant ones are the most visible.

Unfortunately, rlh11Bravo, I think that you have the numbers reversed there on our kids. The 1.5, again, unfortunately, are the bad ones that appear to get all of the news attention. All of the other kids are too damn busy doing what is right. They are not out there looking for that attention due to the fact that they are working and do not have that type of time.

Leave it to our Media Goofs to find that 1.5 Per Cent and make a big deal out of them. By doing that the bad kids get the attention, and they respond by doing more dum things. You have to remember that the Media is not found of good people, as they are not news worthy; like the bad kids.   -ceb   ...

When was the last time you heard the local news report on someone in a war zone doing something right?  However, you will hear of every one that is accused of doing something wrong.  The same holds true in law enforcement.  I have to deal with the youth that have done something wrong, that is the nature of the job.  I have seen parents come in and make deals to get their kids out of trouble and then the kids repay them by going right out and doing it all over again.

When I was young, if a male got into trouble with the law the Judge would, most likely, give them the choice of doing time or joining the military.  The military was different then and they had a free hand to fix the problems.

In my opinion, most youth of today are not expected to get a job while they live at home.  They spend their time watching tv that distort true life and make heros out of scum bags.  They play video games that use less brain power than reading a book.  They do no value money, because it is given to them.  They try to emulate the scum in the movies and on tv.  I have seen youth that are doing drugs in their own home and the parents had no idea it was happening.  Children are being allowed to grow up on their own, they are not be raised by caring parents.  If they were diciplined when they were young they would have more respect for authority.

We are lucky to have as many young people that are squared away enough to know that this country must be defended and step up to the plate to do just that.  They are not forced to do this through a draft, as was done in the past.  In my book each of them are heros.  Yes they are very young and in a way they are loosing their youth defending this country.  They  must make life and death decisions while they are still too young to buy a beer.

After all that being said, I think you can blame, if any must be placed, on the downfall of the family unit.  More parents are getting divorced or born outside of marriage and the children are being used a pawns to get back at the other spouce or ex-lover.  Too many children grow up without a father in their life.  Too many children are being abused and are unloved.  Too many parents never think about anyone but themselves.  That leaves the children to become a problem for law enfocement.

Just an old mans opinion,  I will get down off of my soap box.

My referance to the scruffy, welfare guy was for a reason. I subscribe to the notion that each person in our society is responsible for thier own actions and can blame no one but themselves for the way that they behave. That being said,Look what our young have had as role-models! That scruffy wellfare dude, Unfortunatelly represents too big a part of my generation. each generation has its dregs and its good Americans, Who seek to contribute with honor and pride. Unfortunately,We mostly only hear about the a$$bags and the real Americans must always pay for thier selfish, slovenly ways. I would be willing to bet that most of you young heroes, who were proud to do your part for our nation,Had good parents to look up to. Those who didnt, but still serve,Had the inteligence and conviction to be an assett, instead of a leach.Dont stop there,We need you patrolling our streets and borders,We need you in our schools and in our government. True Americans,Who would serve our nation with the conviction of a patriot, Are unfortunately, In short supply in our government right now,   Looking for a job?

Boy-O-Boy, do I agree with you, Sir. From what I can recall, is that a good share of parents are too busy in their own little worlds and the kids are forgotten, until it is too late. Also you have some parents that are stuck with the old thing that their kids never do anything wrong. Boy is that a loser's remark. When those parents finally find out about their little Johnny, or Joanie, then they, the parents, start blaming others for the problem.  The parents are the ones that are failing, and not just the kids.

Oh-By-The-Way, Old Man, becareful of when you step down from the soap-box, that you do not fall over..  Har-Har.  And, yes, I'm also an old man, and have to be careful of that, too.  Har-Har.  -ceb   ...
