| Posted 4 months ago I just want to be an Officer first and foremost, I figure the other chances to progress will come with time and hardwork. I wouldn't mind moving into the detective field once I got into my mid 30s or early 40s. | Posted 4 months ago Anyone here even SWAT? Doesn't sound like it. Went and saw a cool movie, played video games about SWAT, and that is what compells you...ridiculous! SWAT is absolutely team. It is for people who have a desire to place the team and innocents far above himself. SWAT is only for experienced cops who have been through dynamic, critical incidents and know they are going to respond with a clear head. Experience as a patrol officer, many years of it, are the only way to prove these types of things to yourself and to other team members. An officer who is thinking about SWAT has to have many of the "issues" settled: do I truly have the ability to give my life in an instant for someone else? Do I have the ability to take a life with only a fraction of a second to make the decision? These are just a couple of "issues" that solid cops have "worked out" in their brains before even contemplating joining SWAT. Street experience is what brings this kind of maturity, and once you have reached this level, and your body is in good enought shape, you test for SWAT. |

That seems to be a common response when alot of people come and ask questions...when they dont get the answer they want to hear, they go ballistic. Ive said it before and Ill say it again, many of the "considering joining/actively applying" people who sound off on this site dont seem like they would even pass the psyche. |

Well said..While I agree it's fine to have dreams you need to realize the factual things that you have to do to make them come true..Hell I dream on being a multi-millionaire and sailing around the world on my luxury yacht but it's not going to just fall out of the sky for me.

| Posted 4 months ago Like everyone has already stated becoming SWAT is really hard you have to be willing to give 200% all the time....not just on duty either, the swat officers that I have ran into including family have a physical and mental edge that alot of other people dont have. You have to be willing to give up everything just to be considered. At an un-named department you have to do your physical testing weekly (harder version of a standard PAT) if you arent improving your scores after three tries (not even a month) your out. Not to mention all the additional training you need. So in short dont go into LE wanting just to be SWAT because realistically only a certain few have the capasity to be SWAT. Go into LE to protect good from evil..... After years of experience on patrol then consider SWAT, just remember if you have a family think of them and how your already dangerous job just got to a higer level of danger.... |

| Posted 4 months ago And by the way dont compare the moive "SWAT" to real-life SWAT not only is there a large amount of errors, tactically, but it really pisses SWAT officers off. Oh also I think it's scarey to think that people think LE is like a movie....no offense |

| Posted 4 months ago Ok... everyone can take a deep breath. The OP simply wishes to know what steps to take to work towards joining SWAT. Nothing wrong with that... sometimes people just know what they want, other times they think they know. At least this person is asking.
