I am 25 years old. I have taken the fallowing classes:

Criminal Law   

 CCI: Computer Crime Law  

 Abnormal Psychology             

 Contemporary Amer Society  

 Oral/Interpersonal Comm   

Constitutional Law               

Terrorism & Emergency Planning

    Professional Police Comm      

 Law Enforcement Writing         

Private Investigations, Intro

Law Enforcement Issues    

Intro to sociology

Criminology

Criminal Justice intro

Business crime prevention

Community policing 

Criminal Investigation Theory    

Psychology of human relations

 I am currently out of school due to a problem with my Financial Aid. It doesn’t look like I will be going back soon. What can I do to get a job as a police officer sooner? My town has a volunteer program and I’m signing up.

Jen, please introduce yourself to PL in the Introductions Forum.


As for your question, it really depends on your area, state requirements, so forth. Contact your local PD to figure out minimum standards. Getting involved in the dept is a good step.

I was currious if there was a over all standard. I do not want to work in the state that I live in. I know most places require 60 credits which I excede.

As previously stated, each of the 50 states are different in the requirments for POST (Peace Officer's Standards and Training). Some states require that you put yourself through an academy and other like mine (Alabama) require that an agency sponsors you (which means that you have a job with them). Most states have some sort of licensing board...often called a POST board. Try googling it for the state you are looking for, and they will have minimum requirements listed for that state. Obviously every agency can have further requirements.
