Posted 5 months ago (This is from a non-officer) I recently purchased a S&W 357. This is in my mind one of the best handguns for the money. I also think this is a great gun for protection. The only thing you have to worry about is accuracy. Since your shots are limited you better place them well. Any thoughts of your own? |

| Posted 5 months ago I prefer as semi automatic pistol. About the only downside to a 357 is overpenetration, depending on the ammo choice and where you are using it (ie in the home). Evey day is just the same, I'm chasing rainbows in the rain. AWB nickname "Wiz" |

| Posted 5 months ago I own a SW .357Mag myself, love it...that is my home defense gun and it is within an arms reach when Im sleeping....that is if Im on that side of the bed that night. That is the number one man stopper, you dont get better than the killing power of the .357mag, and when I fire that gun...the entire neighborhood is going to know the deputy just smoked someone because that gun is insanely loud. And I dont have to worry about that bad boy having the TYPICAL failure to fire snafus |

| Posted 5 months ago Currently, I own my old 38 S&W service revolver. As a civilian, I just went went and applied for my CPL. I am considering purchasing a semi-automatic pistol, any suggestions? |

Both guns have their pros and cons...your semi-auto have much more moving parts that can go wrong and faulty up the mechanics of the gun. However, almost all semi-autos carry more than 6 rounds these days (your typical revolver carries between 5 and 6 rounds) and the reloading time is much faster in semis than with revolvers. Now, if you're talking about accuracy alone? I would have to go with a revolver. Ever notice that the cassings on semi-autos usually go out and to the right? Well, since the frames are cut that way, guess which way the gas escapes? You guessed it, back and to the right..Revolvers, on the other hand, don't have an ejection port- so the recoil just goes straight back. And since the barrel in a revolver is fixed to the frame, you also have a more stable platform. Again, each has their own pros and cons...currently, I don't even own a revolver anymore....but I'm looking for one again. However, not too many gun shops stock what I'm looking for (.44 mag or .454 Casual with a 4 to 5 inch barrel). Happy hunting... |

| Posted 5 months ago S&W makes a revolver that I think will hold 7 rounds of .357 mag. |

There is a model of the 686 I believe that holds 7. S&W does just not sure which one. I think Taurus made a 7 and an 8 shot 357. Have not seen any so i don't know if they took off. I vaguely recall seeing them in a gun porn magazine. You have the rest of you life to solve the problem, how long your life lasts depends on how well you do it. -Clint Smith |

| Posted 5 months ago Doesn't smith make a new round......the .327 mag? I think it comes in a 7 shot version. I will do some looking. But to the original question...Riot is right as usual. Different guns are better in different situations. Experience is something you gain just after you've needed it..

| Posted 5 months ago I liked having one of each.............................strapped to both ankles and a drop holster with a glock and a small .9mm Smith stuck in the back pocket and a belt buckle .22 dual shot with a suped up sling shotgun thrown over the shoulder with the M-4 at high ready. A few IED's stuck in a back pack is always a nice touch as well. It is what it is.............and.........these things too shall pass. |

I thought that was a Ruger/Federal project. Because wasn't Ruger the first company to make a revolver in .327?
Nice klamm. |

| Posted 5 months ago I liked the Ruger Vaquero in 45 Colt. For practical uses I like the auto loader. Not very good with a DA wheelgun You have the rest of you life to solve the problem, how long your life lasts depends on how well you do it. -Clint Smith |
