So im doing my own background check, just so i dont have any suprises when i apply and eventually end up in the background investigation process

i have a few questions regaurding my background

i got my Driving record today, it listed only one ticket, but i have gotten two but i have gone to traffic school for one so thats why it isnt listing it, im guessing both of the tickets would still show up in the background investigation right? and would the traffic school ticket still count twords a disqualifier?

2nd question: im going to the police station tommarow to see if i can get my police record, i have had no arrests or misdomeanor citations nor any tickets other than parking/traffic violations. but i have had a few verbal warnings for doing things in parking lots.... would those show up in the background investigation? they have run my record every incident but they just told me not to do it agian and let me go

i know ive been asking alot of questions recently i just wanna get all my questions asnwered so i can go in prepared

i apreciate this forums help, Policelink has been a wonderful comunity, agian thank you all soo much

Why would you want to do your own background investigation, when you already know what's there?  Sounds a little suspicious to me.  Are you checking to see what might show up and what might not?

Seems like a waste of time and money.  Let the LE agency conduct your background.  Trust me they will find it all.  Every time you were contacted by the police, by any agency in any state, for any reason, will show up if the officer ran you for wants and warrants.  The computer keeps a log of this type of activity.  It doesn't mean you will be disqualified or anything like that.

Just let the police do their background, and do not offer the information you have collected doing your own check.  They will trash it.

Rarely is a traffic cite a disqualifier, unless it was something extreme, in which case you probably would've went to the slam.

But like jimroc said, you know what's on your record. You were there when you did whatever you did. If you were contacted by an officer, there is a record of it somewhere. Best bet is to just let them do their thing, and if you get DQ'd try again somewhere else. Lots of depts know you're human. We've all done dumb stuff. Just be honest and upfront about it. Integrity is a HUGE player, especially if you're going for a Sherrifs Deputy position.

You've just gotten the best advise possible in this circumstance.

Just an FYI, in most states, there is a record of who runs your history (criminal, traffic, etc). As has been mentioned, you should have a good idea of what you've done. Thus, by checking up on your own record, it starts to look like you might be trying to see what is on file for you vs what you've done. It ends up coming off as at the very least suspicious, and your backgrounder may look at it as an attempt at being deceptive.

Dude if you think that was hostile, you're getting in the wrong line of work.

LEOs tend to be "A" type personalities who give straight answers and do not bow down to political correctness or any similar BS.  If you truly believe that the responses that you received were "Hostile" or "Stern" then you need to seek another line of employment.  Like Sgt. Joe Friday always said in the old "Dragnet" TV series, "Just the facts Ma'am, just the facts".  That is what these LEOs are giving you, just the facts, no sugar coating, no niceties, just the facts.

Law Enforcement is not a career for the feint-of-heart, overly-sensitive, easily frightened or politically correct. It is a tough jobh that often requires split-second decision making under the most stressful of circumstances.  You will not always have the opportunity, or desire, to talk things out with a suspect or to try to reason or rationalize with them.

As for doing your own background....don't bother.....for the reasons already stated by others.  As for the "Verbal Warnings" in "Parking Lots", don't sweat them, they will not show up in a background check.  They were just "Verbal Warnings" and were probably not docketed as such on any official report form.

Well, if you know that it "should not happen" then there really shouldn't be "anything popping up" that you have "no idea about" now is there?
