Let me try in a different vein.  Fear, something that can be useful if used in a proper way.  As a child I loved my parents but had a fear of what would happen if I screwed up.  For example as I never actually ran into traffic (that I remember anyways) I didn't know what would happen if I ran out into the traffic (i.e. being hit by the cars and all) but I knew what would have happened if my parents had caught me and I feared them for it.  I knew I would not have been able to sit down for a while.  I didn't understand the reasoning why until later on in life that the spanking was A LOT less severe than being hit by the traffic.  It was also something that I could easily remember at the time until I learned later the lesson that was needed.

The Bible speaks metaphorically many times.  If we were to try to think of God/us from the perspective of parent/child relationship, while you may not understand the ultimate reasons why something is happening, it may calm you knowing that God has a bigger purpose, for instance, as to why you lost your job today.  Maybe God needed to accomplish a couple of things. . . .one of which was to get your attention to think about him again and the other was that you needed to have no ties to the past so he could put you into a better job that you were unaware of.  Yet at the moment we lose the job, our whole world crashes down around us and we can only think, "Woe is me!".  If given enough time, the reason for the loss of the previous job would become clear.

In the Bible, how many times was God just about fed up with his creation and was going to destroy it.  He did once with a flood.  Later on, Abraham bargained with God for the residents of Sodom and Gomorrah.  God told Abraham to step out of the way so he could destroy those two cities. . . .Abraham bargained, "If I can find xx amount of good, deserving people. . .will you spare the cities?".  Obviously we know the results of that bargain.

God was going to destroy Nineveh if they didn't change their ways. . . . .BUT, being the loving God that he is, he sent Jonah (against Jonah's will) to at the very least tell the residents of the evil ways.  Nineveh changed, Jonah was not completely happy with the outcome but God did not destroy the city.

How many more examples can one think of?  God gets the Israelites released from the Egyptians using Moses and his brother (Moses') Aaron.  Freedom is probably in the top 10 of gifts to be received (in my book anyway).  What do the Israelites do?  While they start by praising God. . . .eventually they go back to their evil ways by turning their collective back on God and begin worshipping idols.  A ram that Aaron had made with his own hands. . . .if you can beat that.  This is the reason Moses broke the first set of commandments and had to go back to beg for a second set.  While they screwed up a number of more times, the Israelites where God's chosen so he did not destroy them (although he probably thought about it a number of times), their punishment was they were not allowed to go into the promised land and had to wander in the wilderness for 40 years until that generation had died out.

I won't be wronged, I won't be insulted, and I won't be laid a hand on. I don't do these things to other people and I expect the same from them.

I am very glad to have so many people . Help me in my question. BUT , It is a question with several attachments. .I read things and then preachers tell me i am wrong in my understanding.. I read ..AND HE WALKED ON EARTH AS 3 seperate men. The 3 men walked together , at the same time same place.   AND jesus is supposed to be his only son  ... BUT..The preacher at the holiness church and a couple others ...Told me I dont know what i am talking about when i say does that not mean there is 3 gods and jesus is his son not HIM. They said the bible clearly say he divided himself ...{ I cant find that passage  ]] .And jesus was just a part of him that he put here and then took back ..that jesus is god. They are not 2 seperate beings. They also said I was commiting blastphemy just asking these questions. I was a stupid woman..The holiness preachers said women need a man to tell them what the bible says .I said there are very important woman in the bible .He said no ...They are not..They never tried to answer my questions so ..I never went back and think they all have little mans syndrom.    Texas 2 step   .. I did like your explanations.    MSP1672 I never feared my parents...I know when i did something .I might get caught. so. ,If i still did it .I was already excepting my punishment..I was different than most kids..If someone asked me if i did something ..I would own up to it if it was mine. My mom said i was like this as a very young child. She always knew ..I would tell the truth ,even if my ass felt like hamburger afterwards..I would explain why i did it and wait for my punishment...I also would speak-up if someone else was being punished for what I did... I would never let anyone take my punishment.  My touble was usually going into abandoned houses. or beating the crap out of my older brothers friends for asking me out or trying to kiss me or touch me . My dad said he would have done it .BUT, the humiliation of being beat up by a girl was good enough .then i would get grounded or whipped for taking it into my own hands.

Well, let's try taking a step at a time.  First off, if you have someone saying that a woman needs a man to tell her what the Bible says, then I think you have your answer there, that church is not for you.  Can you read???  Can you think independently of other people????  Can you apply critical thinking????  If you can answer yes to all of those, why would you need a man to explain the Bible to you.  If you look for assistance in undertanding something and that person just happens to be a man. . . .well I think you can figure that one out.

As for God being the only one, but 3 people.  Different religions call it different things but I've usually heard it being called the "Trinity".  You have God the father which is the creator of all things, Jesus Christ the son of God and the Holy Spirit or comforter.  Jesus the son is mentioned, not by name but as The Messiah in the Old Testament.  He is not called by name until the New Testament.  He is also called the Lamb of God and Savior.  Going back to the Old Testament, Moses is directed by God to set up alters and have the followers bring "gifts" or "sacrifices" to pay for violating God's laws. . . .or sinning.  The sacrifice HAD to be the BEST YOU HAD, WITHOUT BLEMISH.  If you go to Leviticus, you can dig as deep as you can stand into all of the pomp and circumstance about what type of animal for this or that type of sin and if your head doesn't explode by the time you understand it all, you will be lucky.  Suffice to say that the cost of sinning against God's word could get very expensive.  It was supposed to hurt you so you would be less likely to want to commit that sin again.

Problem was, with anything that man gets a hold of, he will bastardize it.  The Judean law (not God's law) became so complex that a person could not follow the law here without violating it over there.  All because the people that were supposed to be representatives of God became greedy and had to create more violations so they could get more money (sounds kind of like the bastards in D.C. right now, does it not?).

God decided long ago that he needed to correct this so his plan was to bring about the ultimate sacrifice. . . . .his very own son.  Jesus is born through immaculate conception (God's seed) into the human world.  He is allowed to grow into a man and then is sacrificed (just like the ram in the Old Testament) for you and me.  Why?  John 3:16 says for God so loved the world that he gave his only son. . . . .the reason was that whoever believed in the son and accepted the son as their sacrifice, their soul would not perish but would live forever.

Now you can take my word for it. . . . .you can listen to people that say you have to go through a special person (i.e. Rabbi, Pope, Imam, etc.) to get forgiveness. . . . .or you can delve into the Bible AND OTHER BOOKS to find out for yourself.  The Bible is not the only source for the Christian religion.  The Jewish Torah is literally the first 5 books of the Bible. . . .or those books written by Moses.  While the Jews don't believe that Jesus is the Messiah, they do know of him and have many things written about him that correlate to what is written in the Bible.

Believe it or not, I have been talking with a friend of mine that is of the Islamic religion.  He tells me that The Koran also mentions Jesus by name!  While he is not the Messiah in their book either, he is a prophet and the stories of him among other stories, including Moses among others, are in the Koran.

If you don't want religious material, there are writing by historians like Jocepheous (I don't think the spelling is correct but I am too tired to look it up) that lived back in the time of Jesus and writes about the exploits of Jesus and his followers from a less than religious point of view.  There are other historians from different parts of history that write about some of the stories that you can read from the Bible.  If you go to a Bible store with a good diverse reference material, you might find a book (I read it but can't remember the name or author) that explains the science of the Bible and how the different stories could have occured and stayed within the bounds of the scientific laws that WE KNOW about.

As for the 3rd person in the Trinity, he is known as the Holy Spirit.  He is introduced in the story of Jesus, after the crucifixion when the Disciples have lost their "Master" (Jesus) and are sitting around feeling sorry for themselves.  Jesus' promise comes to be then when "The Comforter" appears above each person present.  It has been explained as a small flame, halo, light. . . . .let's just say that many different people have different thoughts on it's appearance.  The purpose of the Holy Spirit is that quiet voice inside of you to calm you when you are troubled, tell you when you are either about to, or have already started down the wrong path, give your spirit the sustanence that it needs to survive.

If you have made it this far, I apologize for the length but am trying to give you something to contemplate.  Again, I am not going to tell you that this is the complete and utter truth as I may have made some mistakes in my interpretation, or in my attempt at trying to condense the information for you to absorb. . . .if you so chose.  However, speaking metaphorically I can only show you the water. . . . .you have to want to drink.  As for being complete, weeeellll you will need to find a friend that can help you navigate the Bible to study it.

Believe it or not what you read today you will understand it one way.  When you come back later on (after having read other parts and other material) you will find yourself understanding it either better or in a different way.  It's not that the material had changed at all, it was your understanding of the perspective of the writer of that particular book that allowed you to see things in a different way and thus, maybe understand what the writer was trying to say.

Have I confused you yet?  If not, good luck in finding the answers to your questions.  As I said in a different post, the answers you are looking for, nobody can answer them except for you.  We can try to point you in the direction of "AN" answer but that answer may/may not be the one for you.  I wish I could be more specific but when you are talking philosiphical questions, the answers are just as philosophical.

Hey Steve, Way to Go Brother!,,, I Agree,,,, If  You have someone saying that a Woman needs a Man to tell Her,,,  what the Bible says, Then I think you have your answer there,,, Amazingly Enough, There are Such Men out There,,, It Just Blows My Mind,,, That There are Men who Actually Think  or Believe,,,, That They are Above a Women in more ways than one,,,Personally,,, I Delight in Educating Them,,, and Helping Them Realize,,,, What ever it takes,,,,, That They are NOT!,,,, Anyway,, What I was getting to is,,,,,We Are All Under The New Testament,,, We are All Equil,,,, JESUS  Accomplished in the New Covenant,,,,  What the Old Covenant was Not Adequate to do,,,, Defeat Sin,,,  The Old Covenant Proved,,,,  That Sin was more Powerful than The Law,,,  As Soon as The Law in the Old Covenant Said,,,,THOU SHALT NOT!,,, Mankind Could Not Resist The Temptation and The Power of Sin,,,,Now, It's Just My Opnion,,, But I Think it is Best to,,,  Concentrate on the New Testament since that is what pertains to us,,, and I Agree, as for Questions and Understanding,,,Nobody can Answer them except for You,,,,I do believe the Holy Spirit Helps us obtain what We Need...

If you ever doubt God exists, just look at a child.  How can something so small be so beautiful and perfect?  Stop looking around you, start looking inside of you.  He Lives!

In Christ,

It is a pleasure to see a post in reference to our Heavenly Father. I truly believe in God the Father, his son Jesus Christ and his Holy spirit.  The world in which we live in has taken a turn for the worst as it is written in the bible.  People have taken God out of our schools, we cannot discuss him in our places of employ, nor can we participate in Christmas traditions as we used to at work.  How is it that we can embrace other religions and talk about them at work and school, but denounce Christ!  How sad is that. But we are now paying the price!

No wonder our children who attend school are so screwed up. We have growing gangs in huge numbers, total disrespect, use of profanity as a second language, poor manners, satanic symbols on teen  apparel, and this is accepted into our society. Our kids should have a balanced life style that consist of morals, ethics, education, ettiquette, a fun social and active life and belief in God, and not in that order.  There are so many horrible types of crimes going on around the world as well as in our own back yards and it is getting worst.

If people do not repent of their sins and ask God for his forgiveness how can we be better as a world. The things that are happening in the world are bible prophecies. The end is not coming, it is already here, we are just waiting as christians to be raptured up, then for those who are left behind, they will have the pleasure of residing with the anti christ!  We are asleep, we should be alert, and wait upon the Kings arrival.  God can fix this world, only if the world allows him to do it?

You said is there a God?  Yes, it is, but remember, he has given us our free will to make decisions for ourselves. If we choose not to follow him, then we are left in the hands of the wicked one...it seems like that is what the world has choosen, as we can see the results of what is going on around the world today. "Christ is coming like a thief in the night" so keep watch!!!

Yes GOD is there watching over us. Yet some times he will brake us down only to rebuild us with the strenghts to carry on, and the knowlege to survive in this cold world. Correct me if I'm wrong but Jesus always sat with the sinners, for they are the ones that need saving. We as a whole must help GOD by paying more attention to our surroundings= the children. GOD may pertect the mind set of the child in the mist of wolves but if no one acts to the suspision of child abuse then no officer can help. Don't feel bad for loseing a little fath, just don't give up the fight for what you know in your heart as RIGHT. If it is easy to see the devil in your work with all the wrong you see day to day, then there too it's easy to see GOD: by HIM your are there with a badge to help those in ways that others can't. Be Blessed, for you are blessed and stay safe out there.
