I was recently looking to purchase a new gun and I was checking out the Sigma 40cal. It seems to be a good weapon with a high capacity, but I am not sold on it's reliability being that the gun is half plastic. Compared to my Rock Island 45 it feels like a toy. Anybody out there with this gun that would like to share their opinions?

I hate the sigma!! It was made to counter the Glock and fell way short. My brother used one for duty use for a while and had nothing but problems and the way the trigger is set up it also shot much differently than any other pistol ive shot. I never qualified with one just shot it but I know my brother shot constant 47-50 out of 50 with all of his other guns and shot 40-42 out of 50 with the sigma.

swany is right in his history lesson.  The Sigma was S&W's answer to the Glock.  I don't know how they failed so miserably.  The weapons were so similar that Glock filed suit on S&W and lost.   I owned one for a short time and was do displeased with it that it took almost 10 years before I finally gave the Glock a chance.  I love my Glock now.  Spend a little more $$$ and get the Glock.  You won't be disapointed.

I agree with the others, not very accurate and the trigger sucks.  If you need a S&W try the new M&P or even better try a GLOCK.

I've worked with the Sigma and I can say that I don't care for it. The trigger is horrid and isn't up to the "Standards". If you want to stick with S&W, look at the M&P, the trigger may be a little odd at first but it is a great pistol it also has a grip angle simmilar to the 1911 so it isn't as sharp as the Glock pistols.

That is my main complaint with Glocks, I shoot them just fine but the grip angle is a little akward to me.

I've has a smith&wesson 9mm and a smith&wesson .45 caliber. I was over all pleased with the 9mm but the .45 was a piece of junk. I kept it about 2 weeks and traded it off even to a .357 revolver.

Smith Idea, Glock Made Already!

As much as I hate Glock I would rather have one then a Sigma.

The Sigmas are not a bad gun considering they only cost about $300 and they are covered under S&W lifetime warranty. I do not own one and never will but they are ok for someone who is just learning how to shoot or likes to go to the range and punch holes in paper.

My advice...Keep shopping.

You're life is worth more than what the Sigma can provide.

Thanks for the input everyone. My initial assumptions seem to have been verified, and I think I will keep looking, for now my 1911 is still my baby. I have never been very fond of Glocks, but I have also never shot one. I am going to check out a couple models and see what I like the feel of.

In most areas you can get a Glock blue label for about $450.00 + tx .  That's cheaper than what I could get a Sigma for .

MT Fish and Game had Sigmas. the Wardens hated them. Unreliable and not accurate. you get what you pay for and what is your life worth a $300.00 Sigma or a S&W M&P a little more money but well worth it.

Hey! Just wanted to say that I went through with many of you fellow shooters replies and purchased a Glock 22. I only have about 200 rounds through it, but man is it sweet! I have had many guns in the past, mostly cheapies, and now am a Glock fan for life. While no gun will ever remove my 1911 from my heart, I am now looking very much forward to purchasing a Glock 21 45. I really like the idea of having this caliber with such a high capacity. As a person who knew nothing about Glock besides that they were very plain looking, I did a lot of research to determine why they were all the rage, now I will never use anything else as a carry weapon. Thanks a million!!!!!!

The Glock 22 is a fine weapon.

I'm glad to see that you took a pass on the Sigma.
