I'm a sheriff's deputy in Virginia. I took the New York State police exam and was called for prossessing. I completed my physical fitness test and went for my pshycological interview about 3 weeks ago and have heard nothing back from them. Is there any troopers out there that might be able to tell me what I might  expect next. I still am waiting to take my polygraph and medical screening. I have not heard anything and am getting a little anxious.

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

I can't help you with the specifics on NYSP but as a rule Police Departments are extremely slow between the steps in their processes.  Hang in there it will come.  Hopefully you'll hear something more convincing from a NYSP member soon!

Can't help you.  When I went through the process it was a whole weekend...Saturday was the medical screening, physical tests and polygraph.  Sunday was pshyc tests and making an appointment for the psyhc interview - which was about a month later.   Then I had to wait about a month before finding out if I was invited to the academy.

One of our part-timers just got done with all of the tests. Just give it time they take forever. I believe the next academy is sept or oct. You may be on a waiting list and get called a week before the academy because someone dropped out. I even heard of people getting called up to two weeks after the academy started because of dropouts. But, you have to get their in a day or two or you get pushed to the next academy. My suggestion is if you went threw a recruiter then contact the trooper and check in or if not find one, probablly on their web-site, and give them a call.

Just to let you know I just heard that our great Governor is possibly laying off a bunch of Troopers. I spoke to a couple Troopers in my area and they said its possible the current academy and the one before that are going to get laid off. This is why you may not have heard anything. Nothing is confirmed as of yet.

Thank you to all who took the time to respond. I appreciate it. I had also heard about the layoffs.

Rumor has it no layoffs, and no academy class for at least a year.  Even the "counselors" have been sent back to their home troops. Next test to be given in 2012.

Thanks slicktop! I figured thats what was going to happen. When my father was with NYSP they did the same thing for a year or two. I believe that was in the early 80's. We have a part timer that has gone threw everything and hasn't heard anything yet.
