I got it a couple weeks ago and yes I was having a party. It wasn't out of control or anything.

All of us were of age except my wife, but there were a lot of people there.

Each state is different. Look online at the laws in you state. We don't have anything like that where I work but we do have noise laws we site for if we have to keep going back to the party. We can also confiscate the stereo/TV if we want too.

Westphal.

I am going to assume this was a party in which alcohol was served. Was there a cover charge to get in? If so, then you were selling alcohol without a license according to Michigan law. If the wife was drinking, then you were also furnishing to minors. There may be a particular ordinance in the community where this was that covers the term "Open House Party" or it could be the slang of the area. I am not familiar with that term in my part of Michigan though.

We confiscate things all the time. Hopefully it makes them think the next time the police show up at their party.

In Rochester, we have had several house Parties where people have been shot and some killed. As a result the RPD is coming down hard on house parties. If there are fliers the PD will be checking it out. If there is any type of charge to get in it is illegal and will be ended and the host charged. If there is alcohol being served to minors, the same thing. If there is loud noise a ticket will be issued. In addition, if it is rental property, the landlord could also receive points and if the landlord accumulates too many points the city "closes the rental property". If there is any of these factors that may have been what the ticket was for. The Officers have also in the past confiscated the stereos if the person continues to turn up the music after the officers leave and they have been warned numerous times. Some idiots will turn the music up loud even after receiving the ticket.

It's not a party unless the police are called.

Excellent. Out of curiosity, if a party becomes a fiesta when the police get there, what does it become when SWAT is called in?

I'm a cop in Michigan, and I've never heard of an "Open House Party" citation.
