WSBT) An Indiana state trooper has been shot and killed near Wabash. Trooper Dave Rich was killed about 4 p-m Thursday on U.S. 24 about one mile west of Wabash.

State police spokesman Sgt. Tony Slocum says the suspect in the shooting also was killed.

Investigators still are trying to piece together what happened.

Rich was an 18-year veteran of the state police. He was 41 years
old. Slocum says Rich was married with three children.

The shooting prompted authorities to shut down the four-lane highway in both directions around the scene about 40 miles southwest of Fort Wayne.
