Posted almost 6 years ago This is accurate. I checked it out on Snopes.com before forwarding.
We actually received a call last week from the 809 area code. The woman said "Hey, this is Karen. Sorry I missed you--get back to us quickly. I Have something important to tell you." Then she repeated a phone number beginning with 809 . "We didn't respond". Then this week, we received the following e-mail: Subject: DON'T EVER DIAL AREA CODE 809 , 284 AND 876 THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT INFORMATION PROVIDED TO US BY AT&T. DON'T EVER DIAL AREA CODE 809 This one is being distributed all over the US This is pretty scary, especially given the way they try to get you to call.
If you call from the US , you will apparently be charged $2425 per-minute. Or, you'll get a long recorded message. The point is, they will try to keep you on the phone as long as possible to increase the charges. Unfortunately, when you get your phone bill, you'll often be charged more than $24,100.00. WHY IT WORKS: The 809 area code is located in the British Virgin Islands (The Bahamas).
Please forward this entire message to your friends, family and colleagues to help them become aware of this scam Sandi Van Handel

| Posted almost 6 years ago Uh, you need to re-read the info on the snopes site. It goes on to say that not all numbers in the aforementioned area codes are scammer numbers...some are legit. It says very few have been scammed with this, and those that were lost very little money, not the thousands of dollars the email claims.

| Posted almost 6 years ago Geez, I didn't say to call them, you nitwit. I said that not all 809 area code numbers are a scam, and that the snopes site goes on to say so. It also says not to call a number you don't know.

| Posted almost 6 years ago HUH... I have not heard of this, thanks for the info... BUT I can tell you this if someone calls me and I do not know the number then they can leave me an message and if it dose not have anything to do with my bills, friends, family or what I have applied for then sorry you WILL not get called back. I have a number calling me 3 times a day and they will not leave a message until they do they will not get a call back or an answer from me. Also If I call back a long distant number I use a calling card. All it takes is knowing who’s what and were, common sense... REALLY all how many of you have had a friend or family member or even you win the lottery from someone calling you or calling them back? “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent”

| Posted almost 6 years ago Latinab, Seems like the name calling has been coming from the none LEO directed towards those who are or going to be.... I was just called a jerk yesterday... lol But all well if I can’t handle being called names then I’m in the wrong field... :) Just frustrating because it is uncalled for… => “No one can make you feel inferior without your consent”

| Posted almost 6 years ago And don't return any calls that you are suspicious of--there are plenty of other ways to check out the number FIRST. "It is better to keep one's mouth closed and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt." --Attributed to Abraham Lincoln |
