Check out to see if your respective State has a Tactical Association.  These groups are a great resource for information and training.  There are associations in New York, California, Texas, Florida, and Illinois.  I know there are other out there too.  These groups are not just for SWAT officers, but are for ALL Officers.  There is training suited for all levels of Police work.

Good show Pete.  Well said.  You dont have to be a SWAT cop to take courses like Tactical Pistol, basic and advanced Patrol Rifle, Officer Survival, Advanced Patrol Tactics, Self/Buddy Aid, etc etc......and even if youre not in an SRT type unit, there is nothing but complete benefit for the average street cop to take courses like basic SWAT, Tactical Operations in Rural Terrain, Basic Police Sniper, 2 Man Team Tactics, etc etc etc.

It just makes for a more prepared cop, no matter what your tasking is.  I see courses like that as not only an investment in that officer's career, but an investment in their officers life...and public safety.  There is no such thing as too much training.  I think we are police officers should always consider ourselves undertrained...because in reality we are, for every last scenario we MAY face, we are simply not prepared for them all.  No one cop can say he is.  In that mindset, its always good to keep training training training.....repitition, muscle memory.....

In any event, Texas has a pretty damn good organization for tactical LE training called Texas Tactical Police Officer's Association...Ive been a member ever since I was in the regular Army has its open to police officers, federal agents, corrections officers, and military members from the US and abroad.  Not only can you join on individual rates, but if you operate as a team or a unit, you can get team rates as well.

NTOA is great. I've been a member since 98, and have taken advantage of a lot of their training materials/lectures offered.

If you can join up, I highly recommend it.
