Hello to everyone on the site! My name is Andy, and im just under 9 months away from getting my AD in Criminal justice......and then the Academy. I'm very psyched about it. It's taken me 30 years, unfortunately, to get to this point, but I finally made the first steps. I've been around law enforcement for quite some time now...the g/f's family is 90% law enforcement, so I'm not coming in completely green. lol As you may be able to tell by my screen name, I am a Glock junky. To which I'm praying that i get on a force that allows Glocks for sidearms so i don't have to get used to an entirely new trigger system. heheheh But if not, I will have to do a little adapting.
I also ran EMS/Fire for about 6 years, until all the departments around here got too political, then I just kind of faded away in to the background with that. But, I did have a lot of fun with and figured that helping people was my calling. And then the childhood dream thing kicked in and I have been hell-bent on becoming an LEO ever since. So, I'm looking forward to hanging out here with all you guys, learn, get advice, etc.... And please....stay safe out there guys and keep St. Michael close!

Hey Glockaholic723. Most departments have an approved list of firearms for primary and secondary carry. At the same time I don't think any of them will disclose to you what that list contains until you're at least in the academy. I've seen a list for a Sheriff's dept. and it was quite extensive with many Glock models. I don't want to get your hopes up but I'm sure if your dept. doesn't implement Glocks as their issued firearm there is a great chance it will be on that list.

Glockaholic723, I to was in EMS for years. EMS was definitely fun. LE is a little different. In EMS, I've seen people hung from "Repeater Towers" nude, taped to a back board in public. I've seen motor officers run to their motors to answer a call, only to find their helmet missing. The jokes are a little different. Most of the "Other Stuff" is still the same. Keep one thing in mind; you will not be 'Liked" like you were in EMS. When I worked in Atlanta during the Riots, I walked into the crowd to rescue a child. Had I been in a LE uniform, I would have been beat. The crowd had just turned over two SWAT cars. They never looked twice at me. They let me in to get the child that had been injured. I worked for Grady EMS in Atlanta; we had a "VERY" good relationship with the citizens. Keep in mind, you’re not EMS anymore...

Glockaholic723, welcome to the family.

I see that last line I think "HAHAHAHAHA SUCKER!" Also, I really haven't heard of the Glock being the most common sidearm either. The only reason I prefer is is because my hands are extremely large and Glocks are one of the few sidearms that consistently fit them.

Glockaholic, welcome. I'm with you, I like the Glocks only because I'm pretty small and it's the only gun that fits my hand. The last department I was at used Barettas and I felt like I was carrying a cannon on my side.

well....first of all....i love my tupperware! :o) and as far as the GA meetings go.....well, im far beyond their help. i did a 12-month program and it didnt touch me. my g/f has given up hope on me. shes actually getting attached herself, but i still got some work ahead of me to turn her in to a full-fledged glockaholic. heheheh shes more in to the AR....a woman after my own heart! lol not that she doesnt have my heart already, but..... GB, yeah, i was kinda figuring that would be the way things would go. but hell, sometimes people around here dont like EMS either. ive been spit at, swung at.....just about everything. so, i guess it wont be that substantial of a change. :-\ goes with the territory. but yes...definately looking forward to getting in to the field and doing my part to put the bad guys in jail.....mainly the drug dealers/pushers. have no tolerance for them....at all. and hopefully in about 3-5 years ill have my 4-legged partner. :o) K-9 work is my long-term goal. cant wait!

thanks for all the replies and i look forward to learning from everybody!

NABER414, sorry it took so long, it was a 45, it's been so long and I can't remember, but it was way to big. Don't get me wrong I could still handle it. I just feel more comfortable with the Glock.
